Hughes Bakery - I surrender!

I have developed an addiction.

Something about the Hughes Bakery keeps me going back far more times than is really good for my waistline or my cholesterol levels. I am prepared to run the gauntlet of lycra clad cyclists in order to reach the counter and place an order.

I am even willing to weave my way through the wall of coffee enthusiasts who stand, silent and with arms crossed, grimly awaiting their caffeine fix.

Hughes Bakery do a great line in tarts and pastries, more than making up for the spartan decor, and the staff are almost all friendly and helpful. I recommend the strawberry tart or pear brioche.

You can always spot somebody who’s not a ‘real man’ – they talk about what they think ‘real men’ do. They’re like liars who say ‘but in all truth’, or moral cowards who say ‘but ethically speaking’ – their words belie that this is not their regular conduct, but something forced, unnatural and uncomfortable, a posture adopted for short-term gain among their knuckle-dragging peers.

And so it turns out that real men, secure in their talents and abilities, eat quiche.

Speaking of posturing….

Mmmm that’s some bakery indeed Danman, never went anywhere else when I was working the in the printing place behind it or lunching with my mum and her man there years aside.

Yummy Onion or Mushroom Quiche/Tarts. Such fancy sweet food, oh la la!

Almost as good as Flute Bakery.

Real men do not eat quiche. It’s a bacon and egg pie.
