Humphries accuses Labor of duplicity over job losses

Liberal Senator Gary Humphries is saying that Labor is duplicitous.

Senator Humphries says that while Labor Finance Minister Penny Wong refused to rule out involuntary redundancies, another Labor Senator, Kate Lundy, said there would be no forced redundancies.

“The best Senator Wong could come up with was a ‘strong expectation’ that there would be no forced redundancies. But on the ABC Drive program yesterday afternoon, I heard Senator Lundy say that ‘there will be no forced redundancies in staff’.

“It’s incredibly duplicitous that Labor won’t say where the cuts will come from. Do Canberrans honestly believe that you can cut $1.5 billion from the public service by engaging fewer consultants and flying a little less?

“Senator Wong and Senator Lundy can’t have it both ways. Will there be sackings or won’t there?” Senator Humphries concluded.

Gaz has got a point.

At least he didn’t hide the fact that the libs were going to slash the PS.

Unlike the ALP who categorically stated that they wouldn’t.

And that’s exactly the point. Of course, the self-interested APS staff here (interestingly who somehow feel threatened by this move or by the LNP policy) are willing to have a go at Humphries, and conveniently overlook the fact that the ALP/Greens government has reneged on their earlier commitments, which, along with so many other policy areas, appear now to any reasonable observer as if they didnt mean anything at all.

You’re missing one major point … there hasn’t been any sackings. If and when they do occur, then you can use that pent up hatred of Labor *and* gloat over all those “self-interested APS staff” getting the sack all at the same time.

Anyway, I believe it was Howard who created the “core” and “non-core” promises paradigm. Just saying :o)

Flash: politician outraged that other politician lies! News at 11.

Can’t recall actual sackings (forced redundancies) happening before. In my APS shop, if they mentioned voluntary redundancies they’d get killed in the stampede.

According to Ali Moore on ABC Lateline last night (this is the media arm of the Labor Party), the LNP coalition is going to sack 12,000 ordinary public servants and also 15,000 who “work” (her words, not mine) at the Department of Climate Change. Andrew Robb attempted to set the record straight but she doesn’t like be interupted when she is lecturing the opposition about all the problems they have caused and why their policies won’t work.
Is this another Labor lie as they were telling everyone a few months ago that only 1,500 worked at Climate Change?

This “journalist” is, in the words of HG Nelson, a HOPELESS JOKE!!
One of her responses last night, when outpointed on something was akin to “yeah, whatever, next question …”

What a tool. He’s promoting sacking 12,000 people.

As a supporter of Gary and the Libs I am dismayed at him making this speech. I wholeheartedly support savage cutbacks to the PS and a rollback of middle class welfare such as the Baby Bonus and other family benefits.

Let’s hope Abbott ignores him and swings the axe savagely when he wins the next election.

Gaz, you’re on a hiding to nothing with this one, mate. Just let it rest and don’t set yourself up for ridicule (again). After all, you are a Lib in a Labor/Greens town.

He would have been better to shut the hell up, how stupid does he think people are? If his mob get in, it’ll be an epic public service kicking like Howard did in the late 90s. And a huge waste of money, all those payouts, only to have everyone hired back in a few years later.

Duplicity in Politics!! That is outrageous in itself!!!

Well to be fair to poor old Gary it is reasonable of him to ask his question “Will there be sackings or won’t there?”

Because he’s made it very clear that under a government with him and the Liberals, his answer to his own question is: “Yes – lots and lots and lots of them and Canberra be damned.”

And the unstated corollary of course is: “And once those theatrics are out of the way and the Sydney shock jocks satisfied, then we’ll employ a whole bunch of people back – those who haven’t lost their houses and left anyway. Just like we did under John Howard.”

The same Gary Humphries whose party is promising to eliminate 12,000 public servant jobs?

The guy’s obviously got balls made of steel and a head made of overripe cheese.

Geez Humphs, I’m not sure why he’s getting so worked up about it. After all, he’s our elected representative who whole-heartedly supports Abbott’s plan (if Abbott’s ever elected to govern) to carve up the public service. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!
