Humphries happy dancing on NBN woes

As has too often been the case in recent years we’re buggered if we can make sense of what Senator Humphries is trying to achieve.

He’s opposed to the NBN and yet disappointed construction has gone slowly? Just happy to be able to give Senator Lundy the bird?

Yet again, Labor’s broadband promises to Gungahlin are being broken, Liberal Senator Gary Humphries said today.

The NBN’s rollout across Canberra has been dogged by further delays. In addition to the cost blowout of $1.5 billion nationally, Canberra’s access to high speed broadband has been delayed by a further 6 months.
Details released this week reveal the rollout of the NBN in the suburbs of Ngunnawal and Amaroo will be delayed until May 2013, after originally promising to deliver a service in Gungahlin in 2011.

“Once again, Canberra residents witness broken promise after broken promise from the Gillard Labor government”, Senator Humphries said.

“This most recent delay in the NBN’s rollout across Canberra reveals the true character of this government and its abysmal mismanagement of major projects.

“I recently called on Senator Lundy to clarify her promises to deliver the NBN in the ACT as a matter of urgency, yet it seems this further 6 month delay has spoken for her.

Frankly I am not too concerned about the NBN timing for Canberra, am perfectly comfortable with where we are at on the schedule and already a number of rollouts have proceeded faster than predicted (and some have been slower as well) so overall 6 months isn’t much and it may not even be that long once it gets closer to the date and they progress with all the other stages that are being done.

Also is it just me or does anyone else always picture Humphrey B. Bear when ever they read Senator Humphries? I never take anything he says seriously anyway, you try picturing Humphrey B. Bear and then re-reading that press release, and see if you can take it seriously and not chuckle a little inside your head as you read it… lol

What has Gary Humphries actually achieved for the ACT during his time in politics? All he ever seems to do is whine, whine, whine!

The coalition would be far better served by supporting the NBN, but saying publically they believe it can be built more efficiently and cheaply than it is under a labor government. They’ve tried to suggest this, but the reality is their solution is far worse and will probably cost as much.

You won’t get a single coalition MP standing up and saying they don’t want the NBN in their area. Which is why most people see these type of comments for what they are.

What are they?

The NBN is going ahead regardless now. There is little point in the opposition trying to oppose something that was decided on years ago, and has commenced. The fact that it’s being managed and rolled out pretty poorly is something worth complaining about though – especially as it’s costing us all an awful lot of money.

I know you’re a senator Gary and you don’t really have to answer to anyone but how about being honest on this instead of playing petty games?

Which part of what he said was dishonest? It certainly reeks of the usual game-playing (“oh look the other team sucks!”) but the cost has blown out, and Canberra will be delayed. Doesn’t seem dishonest at all.
