The Hyundai A-League‘s glamour club, Sydney FC will be playing the Central Coast Mariners FC in the A-League Pre Season Cup at Canberra Stadium this Sunday. Kick-off is at 3pm and tickets are available from Ticketek or at the gate. General admission is on $18 for adults and $10 for concession & children aged 18 or under.

Games between the Mariners and Sydney FC are always good contests (I’ve been to a few matches between them in both Sydney and Gosford), so it will be worth heading out there. Furthermore, Sydney need to win by at least 3 goals to remain in contention for a semi-finals berth. The Football in the Capital blog has a brief review of the game and The Canberra Times has a piece here about Canberran Adam Casey who is playing for Sydney FC. The Mariners are also a good model for how an A-League team could function in Canberra – they are all about community, community and community and have very strong support on the Central Coast.

Unfotunately, ACTION buses don’t seem to be running a special bus service to the game like they do for Raiders & Brumbies games. At least parking is only $5.

Sydney FC’s website reports that the team will be appearing tonight at Westfield Belconnen. See here for more details.

popovic, sorry tony… i can yell your name but not spell your name – too used to just writing ‘popa’.

goal on debut?? go on..!

recently retired socceroo and long-time palace player (o, we adore him!) tony popavic is set to make a start for his new club, sinney! by the looks of the team sheets, sinney only have twelve fit players, so not so many subs then!! and they have to go for a three-goal + win to have a hope of getting into the next phase of the pre-season…

should be a cracker of a game – get on out there!
