Min Mae’s Tableaux are becoming the stuff of legends.

Apparently it’s the good nudity which empowers rather than the bad nudity which exploits.

The next one is beefing up the musical and theatrical components when it goes on show at the Gorman House Canberra Contemporary Art Space (CCAS).

Here are the details from the FaceBook page:

I Die is a tableau vivant, a living picture created by Min Mae in collaboration with twelve writers, one musician, twelve muses, and their loved ones.

I Die is born of the desire for understanding the impact of death, of dying, of loss, of change. It offers no answers, but lays bare the questionings of it’s seventy or more contributors.

Words by; Maria Fleming, Monica Carroll, Hal Judge, Emma Gibson, Nat Burke, Chanel Cole, Anne-Maree Author, Joan Cornish, David Finigan, Adam Hadley, Andrew Galan, and Naomi Milthorpe.

    Music by; Grahame Thompson

Muses; will remain unnamed til the event.

Their will be two showings, first at 7pm, then again at 8pm. Tickets are available at the door. $15/ $10 for CCAS members.

I Die is presented as part of the CCAS performance program. Contains nudity.

What is Gorman House Canberra Contemporary Art Space like ? Seated ? standing ?

I finally watched Mrs Henderson presents on the weekend.

Death to the French Postcard. Vive le Tableaux!

Although the whole thing seemed more empowering of Mrs Henderson and Mr Van Damm than empowering to the totties with their gear off.

Erm, the most recent hey-day of Tableux Vivant was in 1940’s England (eg: Windmill Theatre, WWII), but then kind of fell away under the onslaught of openly erotic stripclubs.

Methinks you may need to do more than just read the first paragraph on Wikipedia, PB.

Cheers Pommy Bastard. The links don’t work for me at work and I am too lazy to search google. 🙂

Chanel Cole will be getting her gear off ?!?

or you could have followed the provided link.

Just in case anyone else was wondering;

Tableau vivant (plural: tableaux vivants) is French for “living picture.” The term describes a striking group of suitably costumed actors or artist’s models, carefully posed and often theatrically lit. Throughout the duration of the display, the people shown do not speak or move. The approach thus marries the art forms of the stage with those of painting/photography, and as such it has been of interest to modern photographers. The most recent hey-day of the tableau vivant was the 19th century with virtually nude tableau vivants or “poses plastiques” providing a form of erotic entertainment.
