I need advice on a good Cbr MC.

I belong to a Community not-for-profit organisation.

Every year we hold a large fundraising ball. It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year. Black tie, live band, dancing, games, the whole sha-bang.

Next year, we are going to need a new MC.

We need someone who can appeal to all ages, Baby Boomers to the iGen.

Does anyone have any suggestions on Canberra Celebs or just darn good MCs we could hire for the night?

As a professional MC, if my profile were as high as some of the more visible media identities/personalities, I’d be more circumspect about ad-libbing and deviating from scripts.

Happily (or not so, depending on perspective), mine’s low to low/light medium at best, so there’s more scope to be inventive, flexible and adaptive. (Keerist, sounds like a duty statement.)

MC-ing, and indeed life, is more fun when you can be creative and spontaneous. In context. Some functions only need to be straight up and down, and those high profile names/faces draw the punters.

On the plus side, I can be cheaper! http://www.myspace.com/overheardproductions and Facebook under the same name.

Jessica Good, huh. Canberra’s Official Frump.

Is it just me, or is she looking a bit of a “lollipop head” these days?

I didn’t see you over in the Furniture Direct thread defending their honour from all their nasty, evil, defamatory former customers.

By the way it’s libel, not slander. Slander takes the form of speech.

Whatever! And I couldn’t give a rats about furniture direct.

They weren’t being discussed on this topic thread and MC’s were.

So jam it.

Mc’ing is a very challenging role. I dare anyone who has criticised any of the public figures here to try it themselves. I would be vary wary of your comments about them especially when you move into more slanderous territory as you are potentially doing them out of a job.

I wonder how you would feel if people’s comments denied you of any business/money? Pretty angry I reckon.

Let it go.

I was at a function MC’d by Ross Solly recently, he was not so good…

If the function requires the MC to think on their feet and is not highly scripted Ross Solly is not the best option – for this I would definitely choose Daniel Gibson. Ross Solley is better suited to a more conservative and smaller function where he can comment on local political issues. I’m not a fan of Mark Parton as an MC either only because I think he is a little too opinionated and can offend people unintentionally. If you’re not looking for a local MC I would also consider John Blackman – a little more costly but he does a good job.

Mark Parton is boring…

Johnboy maybe?

Just some comments about Daniel Gibson. To say that he is a sleaze seems unfair unless you have facts to back this up – not just heresay which is often the case. I have certainly never found him this way and with an almost all young female team you would think this would have become evident. He is confident and takes an interest in people which might be misconstrued. Our organisation has used Daniel as an MC several years in a row and he was fantastic. One year we had all our audio visual fail and he was left to pick up the pieces – I don’t know any other MC who could do this with little information to support him. Can also speak highly of Ross Solly if you have things well scripted as he has done a couple of more structured events for us.

Daniel Gibson would also spend most of the night sleazing onto anything with a pulse.

Watch your drinks ladies……….

I have to say that this is true. He is a total sleeze that will try anything on anyone (and I know Gibbo personally). Don’t bother with him….you’d get more personality from a wet blanket. Being totally honest and he knows what I think of his presenting style.

+3 for Overheard.

The joys of being a public figure.

You get to hear peoples opinions about you even when you’re not asking for it.

Bitchy aren’t we?

He wears more makeup than most women I know and he’s an obnoxious twat.

Nigel Sutton did a great job MCing at the Canberra Impro Challenge last weekend. I’m sure I can get some contact details for him if you’re keen.

Hi Mia. I’m a Canberra-based MC with 17 years’ experience, and have done it all from weddings (always in a tux) to musical festivals, national sports presentation nights, trivia nights, etc.

Contact details are at: http://www.myspace.com/overheardproductions

For free?

You get what you pay for, YYY, so not for free, no. I do lots of volunteering and pro bono work, but I do have this little eating habit that’s grown on me!

I’m open to negotiation and am happy to talk with anyone on their specific requirements.

i’m with platinum in regards to daniel gibson. he spoke once at our schools year 6 graduation, rambled on about himself, no connection to his audience and that whole laugh at his own jokes was LAME.

+1 for Overheard

I agree. He was great as MC.

If Daniel Gibson was MC of your fundraising event I would certainly NOT attend.

The function would be done with an air of “wing it when he gets there – did not do the preparation? so you will get – be overly quipy to look confident and laugh at his own jokes which are not funny, just talking rubbish about almost nothing of importance to the event, smugly charming…..and maybe no one will notice hosting” People are not that silly. Doubt it would be wise to engage him as your MC.
Well I wouldn’t.

Every time I see that guy I think of the weather snippet I saw him do the day Schapelle Corby was sentenced- started out with – its Friday, bet Schapelle Corby’s glad it’s Friday- followed not long after by the news she got 20 years….

The chef reminds me everytime I see him. I wouldn’t get me to do it.

Ha! Yep, that’s why I don’t service my own car and rarely pretend to be able to cook, choosing to pay others to do things that they can do better than me.

But I’ll happily charge people to be their MC. (References available.)

Jessica Good is great. If she has a script.

Don’t do it. At the function I went to he was irritating and condescending, and failed to get names/places/causes right several times. I also want to throw something at the TV every time he comes on.

Scotty Masters from 104.7. Good bloke. I’m pretty sure he does MC’ing. He did for a friends wedding, but that’s because he was a friend of the groom.

Is he the very fat one, or the other one? I would think either of these blokes would be pretty good, I find them amusing on the radio.

Jessica Good from WIN seems to do a fair bit of MC’ing.

Maybe he should try that as a full time job. He’s a wanker on the radio.
