Hey guys, saw an oped this morning that made some practical sense on what the NDIS is all about, and I thought I would throw it up. Pretty from the heart stuff, written by Labor candidate for Ginninderra Glen McCrea. The same bloke who did the petition for more car parks at Calvary. Have a read.

As a parent of a child with a disability, I’m still struggling to understand what the NDIS (sorry, National Disability Insurance Scheme) will change for my daughter and for my family. The information is pretty thin on the ground. Is it because they haven’t yet decided…is it because they’re worried about the flood gates opening too soon? I actually think we do all right out of the current processes, but maybe others disagree…and maybe we shoulder a burden without realising it’s a burden.

It’s a sad comment on the state of politics in this country that governments of both persuasions can find billions of dollars in soft welfare when they need to (child-care subsidies, FTBs, school expenses rebates, etc), but very little money for addressing genuine need and misfortune, such as disability and mental illness.

Well said.

The fact that the disabled are waiting two years for a wheelchair is a disgrace. I hope this new system does things better.

WTF is an NDIS?

I suggest expanding every acronym the first time it’s used in an article.

what is WTF!?!

Suggest Google for your acronym issues

Thanks for that suggestion. It stands for Network Driver Interface Specification.

Never use an abbreviation without spelling it out the first time.

The most topical one at present?
NSW is contributing, VIC has come around. QLD is still opting out. You know…?

Suggest Google for your acronym issues – that or listten the radio / watch the news an/or read the article link.
