ACT Policing has expressed outrage over the stupidity of two drivers who were caught drink driving last night (November 6).

Around 8.40pm, police stopped a blue Mazda 6 sedan while conducting random breath testing on Caswell Drive, Aranda. The driver, a 22-year-old Kambah man, returned a Blood Alcohol Concentration (AC) reading of 0.079. He will be summonsed to face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date for drink-driving.

Around 9.40pm, police stopped the same Mazda 6 on Caswell Drive in Aranda. The driver, a 21-year-old man from Narrabundah, returned a positive roadside screening test, and was taken to Belconnen Police Station. He returned a positive BAC reading of 0.063. As the holder of an international driver’s licence, he was subject to a zero alcohol content limit, and was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice.

He was taken to the ACT Watch House, where he was charged with drink-driving. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court on November 15.

Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Operations Sergeant Rod Anderson said the message does not seem to be getting through to some Canberra motorists and it is clear these drivers have a complete disregard for other road users.

“Despite continued warnings and public awareness campaigns by ACT Policing, some drivers are continuing to ignore our messages,” Sergeant Anderson said.

“In this case both men ignored advice by police by driving the Mazda after the first driver had been caught drink driving.”

“It’s appalling that these two drink drivers have shown such disregard for the law and are clearly willing to put not only their own lives at risk but also those of their passenger and other road users.

“If you breach the road rules and place your own life or the lives of others in danger, we will catch you.”

ACT Policing is targeting alcohol and drug impaired driving over the next three months as part of its multi-agency road safety strategy.

Solidarity – I know people who can drive better after 10 drinks than other people who are stone cold sober but the law is the law and the BAC limit is .05 here in ACT (for full licence holders). The international licence holder as stated should have been zero BAC; it’s hard enough driving around a strange city in a strange country (could of come from a country that is LHD), let alone when you are impaired by alcohol.

oh no, 0.06 and 0.07!

a few years ago, both were legal and under the limit….

It was once accepted that asbestos was a good building material, but it isn’t now.

I don’t get your point.

It’s more that the cops are all “rar rar rar you’re an idiot rar rar stupid rar” when, depending on the person, 0.7 may very well have less effect on someone else who measures a 0.3…. I would have expected the whole idiot spiel on someone who committed a high range offense….

I’m not clear on what happened here – who suffered damage to their persons or property as a result of these people’s actions?

I’m sure an apology from a drunk driver would bring your significant other back?

Or are we to congratulate the police on successfully detecting the heinous crime of not causing any damage to persons or property?

Don’t they have any thieves and muggers to catch?

Would you be posting the same type of comment if this story was about your son/daughter/wife/mother/etc being killed in a road collision with an intoxicated driver ?

Gee, you’d think a copper would know from experience that any vehicle being driven by a drunk driver probably doesn’t have any sober passengers in the car. Is it too much hassle for the police to hold onto the keys until such time that someone else presents themselves in a sober state ( easy enough to check considering the equipment police are using at the time) to collect the car.

Lock them up till sober. That’s what they used to do ffs.

A solid flogging with a goose feather coming up..Dumb and Dumber could have been caught half a dozen times and still not seen the inside of AMC.

As appalling as the slap on the wrist the judiciary will hand down.I don’t know why the cops even bother commenting on drink drivers given that most who drink and drive couldn’t give a f*** what anyone thinks.
