ACT Policing will once again be conducting Operation School Safe to help combat property damage in and around school grounds during the upcoming Christmas holiday period.
In the past school holiday period (October 1 to 16), ACT Policing responded to seven incidents of property damage, and ten burglaries at schools.
Acting Officer in Charge of Crime Prevention, Sergeant Sue Smith, said schools were targeted during school holiday periods and that police would once again be seeking the public’s assistance to help minimise the damage caused to schools.
“We need the community’s assistance in reporting any suspicious behaviour or activity they see at or around school grounds immediately to our Police Operations Centre on 131 444, or alternatively through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” Sergeant Smith said.
“School grounds are particularly vulnerable during the summer holiday break so police will be increasing patrols around schools during this time. We would still ask residents who live near or around schools to be proactive in protecting our local education facilities,” she added.
