His Chieflyness Jon Stanhope has declared the party started for the Canberra Festival running from March 7 to 15.

Apparently ex-Idol Jessica Mauboy is a “Canberra favourite” and will join Kate Miller-Heidke, the aged Hoodoo Gurus, and Dora the Explorer for Celebrate In The Park. (We note that a line-up celebrating Canberra’s birthday has been kept free of local content).

The Canberra Festival 2009 page has a range of activities including the Canberra Lapidary Club holding an open day, and another carp-whacking day.

The good news is that the popular Balloon Spectacular is kicking off from this Saturday 7 March to Sunday 15 March.

Early risers can get down to the lawns of Old Parliament House every morning at 6.30am, or you can just wait for something magical to snort its way over your head.

Does Canberra have an AC/DC, “Hilltop Hoods” or “The Presets” equivalent?

Hilltop Hoods? Gimmie a break!!!

I couldn’t think of a really big aussie band that fits that genre

The RSPCA are hypocritical that they are not making a noise and protesting over the Canberra Carp Out event.

There will be hundreds of people hooking these poor “sea kittens” – http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Sea_Kittens on barbed hooks and letting them die either by bashing their heads or suffocating them out of the water.

STOP the cruelty – save the Sea Kittens!

I am saving them. I’ll be nailing them to tree’s to enjoy later.

Skin, Saturday can get busy but I’m sure you’ll fit in there better than the few hubby parking benches at the dfo…

Casual Projects or Dubba Rukki can draw at least as big a crowd in this town as Kate Miller Heidke given the same levels of promotion.

Poor old Tibbs and Marmalade, eh?

…*waits for the hot air comments*

I’ll probably be up for some carp-smashing.

How busy does the Brewery get on a Saturday, Christoph?
I have pondered spending an afternoon there when the other half goes to DFO, or grabbing a table for a feed.

Yes, where is the RiotACT balloon, that’s what I’d like to know!

I promise not to sing but will be selling beer including the newest in the Zierholz lineup, a Dunkelweizen (dark[ish] wheat beer). Surely that’s gotta be worth a trip out if nothing else…;-)

Maybe one day we can afford a balloon the shape of a beer stein, there would have to be good promotional value in that for sure.

+1 for “the aged Hoodoo Gurus”.

Dora the Explorer is the clincher for me!

So how many people will actually be staying in town this weekend.

I’d actually like to but circumstances beyond my control prevent this.

Hmm Hoodoo Gurus. If I can avoid Jessica Mauboy and still get to listen to them then I will be quit pleased.

I’ll miss most of the Festival as I’m working at the Airshow most of next week, taht said I’m taking the family on the annual trip to the Balloon Festival on Saturday and Carp killing day sounds like a hoot too!

Perhaps other Rioters intent in deadening a few carp may want to meet at the same fishing spot?

Jessica who?

That’s a great photo!

I’m sure Jessica Mauboy is a lovely person, but she just shouldn’t be given the attention she’s currently getting. How long before Sony stop pouring money down that particular drain?

Keen to see the Hoodoo Gurus though. Woo!
