I had my 3&5 year old there this year, and we have done it for the last 3 years so the youngest was around 7 months on his first dawn service. Irresponsible and cruel, no.

Babies cry.

In most places I can’t imagine it would be easy to move to the back either, from where we sat it looked as though the crowd overflowed onto the roundabout.

Did anyone get up early for the dawn service?
My partner went and on her behalf I would like to say shame on the couple with the child who wailed throughout the entire ceremony. Not only did you make no attempt to console your child, but when a security guard politely asked if you might like move your child to the back so that others may hear the ceremony you selfishly refused so that you may keep your spot. Only at the end of the ceremony did you attempt to calm your child by smothering him in his jacket.

I did and I agree! I was a few rows away from them and didn’t know that a security guard had approached them. I thought it was irresponsible and cruel that someone would keep such a young child out in the cold air when clearly it did not want to be there.

As Peggy Lee sang, Is That All There Is?

Anytime you throw things out to the crowd it’s a lottery.
