On Saturday 08-APR-06 we did the Civic Public Art Walking Tour and lived to tell the tale.

And so, I present to you item # 26, Eternity, by John Robinson. It’s at the intersection of London Circuit and Petrie Plaza.

Eternity - by John Robinson

The guide says:

This sculpture, cast in Italy, symbolizes
the sculptor’s faith in the future of mankind.
It was donated to the people of Canberra
by an anonymous donor in 1981.

Lord of the Rings publicity roadshow would have loved to discover this a few years back and the term illumicube sounds a bit….and the name John Robinson….a bit science fiction

yes – I cna’t really see the point of all this. Why pay to move all this stuff around. They ahve only just put up those Sports Hall of Fame plaques about a year ago havne’t they? and who will be walking past the cube at night on the other side of the Canberra Centre – noone will be there to see it light up.

Thumper, if you read the link in the story you’ll find that the Illumicube’s fate is described in detail – it’s to be restored, upgraded and planted in the Mt-Ainslie-side forecourt of the Canberra Centre.

I must be in a snarky mood today, because I just sent them an email about it!

How disgusting that the official ACT government guide uses American spelling.

It looks like you were luckey to go when you did. From this it looks like a fair bit of stuff is going to be moving around. On the plus side the illumicube will be sound activated again.
