Images of Canberra -- GDE roadworks

Most times I drive past the Gungahlin Drive Extension roadworks and think, “I wish I had a camera.” Well, today I had one. This is one of the pylons for the bridge across Belconnen Way, and the queue of cars resulting from a newly-made long intersection with short green light times.

There’s a touch of “Rain Man” about that pic.

as I saw the top of the photo I thought SGS had returned…thankfully I was wrong!

That’s a kick-arse photo. Thanks for sharing!

The need for an efficient mass transit public transport system si already here.

ACT need light rail.

I asked at a public meeting the other night, how many extra buses would be required if the 16% target of all trips by bus were achieved by 2026. The answer – 300 extra buses.

Can you imagine waiting in bus 30 in the line of buses waiting to access the bus interchange ?

The roads are going to become more congested as even with a three lane road you can only funnel so many down it.

Install light rail.
Where people will use it.
Going to places people need to get to.
Make it attractive and easy to use.

The current road system would then be adequate for decades to come.

All this would have been finished by now except for the fucking whingeing nimby hippies.

I feel for those living on the dark side.

Funny, after all the whinging about the GDA from STR, I went on a hot air balloon ride a few weeks ago, and there were already plenty of clearings for powerlines, roads, cycle tracks etc.

OK, its a pretty wide clearing for the road, but you should try getting out of Gungahlin in the mornings on Gundaroo Drive – I spent 14 minutes in traffic on Thursday going from the edge of Palmerslum to the Barton Highway Roundabout…

Reminds me of Marshall McLuhan’s ‘looking in the rear view mirror’ works on the use of mediums to project messages.

This ‘message’ of course indicates that there was a fair bit of traffic…

Thats an excellent, getting the rear view in and all that.

Maybe a stroll down the bush corridor on a quiet Sunday afternoon would make for an interesting series.
