Eagle in Kenny

Nicnacvb has sent in these photos (slideshow below) with this note:

I took these photos yesterday when I was out horse riding in the paddock which will eventually be Kenny.

There is a pair of Wedge Tailed Eagles that has been breeding here for at least 5 years. Will be a shame to see them go when the suburb gets built.

The photos show 2 fledglings, which can’t actually fly yet, but look pretty funny when they try.

There are a few around but some people might be interested to see these guys. And it would be nice if some of their nesting trees were left standing when the suburb goes in.

Might not be too great an idea to advertise their geographic location – Lots of farmers still go out of their way to kill these beauties, and I know of a few, er, scumbag taxidermists in Canberra that would fly out there to poison, then profit, from these lovely birds.

Have you reported these people to the wildlife authorities? If not, please do!

Wonderful pics. I’ve seen eagles a few times but only managed to get one pic that’s recognisable as an eagle, and that only when significantly cropped and enlarged.

Before anyone comments about it, The eagle at the top of the stump and the flying eagle is either Mum or Dad.

It’s lovely to see these birds thriving so well so close to the suburbs. The fledglings still have some of their fluffy baby feathers particularly on their bums. They are not wedge tailed yet 😀

JB, Nice photos I love eagles. Unfortunately I agree the new development will force them out but hopefully with such a large territory they won’t move very far.

Very cool. I might have to go out and have a look before they are inevitably forced to move elsewhere.
