“Facet” has sent in this picture with the following note:

Canberra big three in a row (tower, fountain and bell thingy [Carillon]). It would make a good “postcard” for the cheapskate visitors who want to cut down on postage.

Got an image of Canberra you want to share with the world? (We live for the day it isn’t a landscape)

Carillion 2, Carillon 2.

Wow. Somebody made a joke – a really, really obvious one if you’ve spent any time at all online – and you missed it. Somebody else pointed it out to you, and you missed it again.

Try a slower shutter speed – it’ll allow more time for the light to reach your eyes, and thus your brain.

Thanks Johnboy, arguing with dopes is like trying to teach a cow to sing, it wastes your time and annoys the cow.

Don’t worry, he’s a good sort.. He hates everyone equally! 😉

you callin’ woody a cow? now that will annoy the cows… 😉

Surely it would give you points at the Pearly Gates if you died while taking a picture of a church on a Sunday…

unless you are a professional photographer – sent down for working on the sabbath, i’m afraid…

I took the photo with my old 35 mm Nikon and scanned it into a jpg @ 600 dpi. I have cropped and scaled the picture to suit computer screen size (as everyone does). I don’t own a copy of Photoshop but I do use the free software GIMP. Woody you don’t know what you are talking about.

insert humour module facet!

“three in a row” 🙂 If you want three in a row go stand in the traffic on Canberra Avenue and get St Andrews Spire, The Parliamentary Flag and Telstra Twr all in line, just be quick or do it early on a Sunday when there is no traffic 🙂

A suicide mission?

The Carillion has a function room at the top that you can hire out for a dinner if you want.

There certainly is a function room and kitchen for hire, I’m not sure access to the bells or instrument is managed though.

They’ve also had open days at the Carillion, which I believe included tours up inside.

The Carillon has a lift to the top and to my knowledge it has never been open to the public. We moved here in December 1970, 8 months after it opened and someone told us that the public could go up in the lift (or the stairs) for the first few months. Both were subsequently closed and never reopened. I’ve never been able to properly verify this. Even on the recent open day to mark the 40th anniversary you couldn’t go up in the lift or use the stairs.
