Lateralis has sent in a picture he shot in the Tuggeranong Nature Reserve of an afternoon about six months ago. He swears no filters or colour adjustments were used.

Extraordinary light, I agree with others above about the spectacular effects here. I really love the contrast between the gold and the black, which last is picked up in both the clouds and the shadow. When you crop, my (completely amateur and inexpert admittedly) opinion would be to leave in the bottom leafy shadows so you don’t lose that, but hey I don’t know nuffink, I just know what I like!

15 minutes after sunrise and 15 minutes before sunset = best times for outdoor photography.

Me personally – I prefer the hours of darkness 🙂

Yes, needs to be cropped Hasdrubal. I did initially do it, and it made the whole composition seem off, so I left it as is.
The shot is from Christmas St Theodore, looking towards the Monaro Highway. That ridge line goes all the way to Tharwa and beyond.

It was one of those afternoons where the light was just so surreal that I had to get a photo of it. That particular orange tinge only lasted about 20 mins but it was awesome.

Wow! Nice pic!

Where’s the Tuggeranong Nature Reserve?

The dark sky behind really makes it. Maybe crop from the bottom to the fence?

I just love that yellow late afternoon light.
