Shepherds lookout

Facet has sent in this picture with the following note:

This is the best site to capture a landscape painting. Shepherd’s lookout at the back of Holt. This landscape scene reminds me of the material produced by Arthur Stretton, Tom Roberts etc.

Got an image of Canberra you want to share with the world? (it doesn’t have to be a landscape). Email it to images@the-riotact.com

Thanks to Facet for the heads up on Shepard’s lookout. I’ve had a couple of very pleasant, if abet short, walks there now. Nice place., apart from the “Eau de Colon” odors from the crap farm.

I’ve shot off a few snaps which can be seen here;

Anyone wants the full sized images, just let me know via the comments boxes. (Full sized images are about 17 MB, but I can reduce as required.)

The Government dose not want people on this part of the river. They have a good reason. You are down stream from the sewerage works and have leaching from the old tip. Not to mention what comes out of Lake Burley Griffin. If there was public access they would have to test water quality and make the results public. That is bound to lead to uncomfortable questions.

I had never considered this. Cynical part of my brain wonders if you may well be right. Although usually the water coming out of the LMWQCC is much cleaner then the river it goes into, Lake G is pretty feral…

In retrospect, the fact Ginninderra Falls is in NSW probably has something to do with the ACT gov’t not caring.

Wow, a new place to visit. I’ll be popping out there on my next days off, with my trusty hiking hounds and my camera. I cannot do an oil painting, but I can knock up a photoshopped “water colour” or other “painting” effect, which will look something like a painting. If any images turn out any good, people are welcome to have a copy.

P1 “It isn’t too bad, so long as you don’t mind walking… I do think it is a shame the the ACT government can’t come to some agreement with the owners of Ginninderra Falls for some public access.”

I am assuming that this photos was taken here, looking west, since this what I have always thought is Shepard’s lookout. It is interesting though that Google earth has this location marked as Shepard’s lookout. So have I always been mistaken about place names, or is google confused?

That is a beautiful paintings. There are 4000 pictures in the website: www, paintingweekly, com. I do not know how to send to this website.

????? is this spam, or a confused post by someone with engrish as a second (third?) language?

There are people on ebay who will do portraits from photos you send them – usually pet or person portraits though, in watercolours, but it might be worth a look at what is on offer.

I would like to commission someone to do a small oil painting of the view from this site but I have no idea how I would go about this….

Maybe you should ask an Israeli or French backpacker to paint you one.

But isnt it a shame that access down to the river from anywhere in Belconnen is so poor?

Belco has the shity end of the river.

I would like to commission someone to do a small oil painting of the view from this site but I have no idea how I would go about this or how much it would cost. This is also a great location for bird watching as it is a wildlife corridor.
