calwell pump sign

Rangi’s sent in these pictures of the signage at the Calwell Caltex.

I guess when communicating with a petrol thieving clientelle there’s not much point to proofing the signs.

That sign gives me a vision of a skinny bloke with no front teeth.

In the US, every petrol pump I visited required pre-pay with a card at the pump. It was a bloody nuisence when holidaying there though, using an Aussie card, as often you had to put in your zip code… all 5 digits. I missed my US card at those times.

Hahaha we had the same problem when in the US recently…can’t remember how we figured it out, I think we just put the local zip code.

I couldn’t get my credit card to work in the US at service stations at all, even if I went inside and the attendant ran it through the point of sale device. Instead, I just paid with cash. Interestingly, I never had a problem with the cards anywhere else, just servos.

Of course, if this service station wasnt in violation of a standing ACCC order with regards to prepaying at the pump, then the whole theft issue could be virtually eliminated. Currently, they have issues with driveoffs AND they violate a ruling which could well reduce their driveoffs significantly.

The real question is how come nearly 2 years after they were ordered to cease their exclusive pay-at-pump deal, that theyre still allowed to continue with it, in violation of several rulings.

You might find that typing in 00000 also works.

It’s not such a strange thing, the BP at Fyshwick has a similar sign and I’m sure the ex-Quix down the road (whatever it is now) near KFC requires you to go inside and pay first, after a certain time of night.

Think you missed the point. What is strange is the fact it is only 1 pump at all times, also unless I am very mistaken the very first post was actually having a shot at the grammar that was used on the sign.

Yeah I realise both those points. Was just adding to the conversation that there’s others around, as some of the posts above had mentioned that it’s a sad sign to see in Canberra.

Surprisingly, all of the employees at that petrol station are very good looking young men.

I wonder who owns it or leases it or manages it and thus employs the very good looking young men?

The Member for Fisher?

Look, every one of you have got it wrong. It clearly states to go seize the attendant. In other words, please do not steal our petrol, take the attendant instead because they’re pathetic at stopping the robberies anyway but due to IR laws we can’t fire them.
Right, clear now? 😉

Define ‘High Theft’? Twice a week?…Compared to some Western Sydney servos we get off lightly..

I lol’d

Ahh… So steal from another pump?

Harriet Vane6:27 pm 27 Apr 12

Limiting it to only one pump is probably to do with the relatively poor sight lines or camera angles on this pump versus the others. Easier to report a drive off if you’ve got some kind of way to report the rego or footage of the offender.

It seems that although I lives in Tuggeranong, I don’t understand Tuggeranongese: if only one pump is a pre-pay pump, and a thieves can just moves to a post-pay pump, how does that prevent theftses?

My guess is that either that particular pump isn’t easily visible from the till, and / or isn’t covered by the CCTV at the station.

The other pumps are turned off.

Perhaps this particular pump is out of sight (or at a bad angle) to the cameras.

They could have got full marks if they’d typeset it in MS Comic Sans.

Thats pretty a pretty frickkin sad sign for Canberra.

For the sake of fairness and balance in reporting, it’s worth pointing out that none of Canberra’s petrol stations are pre-pay IF you step out of a sports car wearing a business suit to fill up with 98 octane. This applies regardless of what time of night it is.

Just another reason not to live in the deep south.

So let’s stop stealing from one pump…and try and steal from another?
