In photos: A dog's day out at A Pooch Affair

Dog owners are a special breed. We have a soft spot for all dogs, but think our own dog is secretly the best. We say things like, “He won’t hurt you,” or “She is toilet trained,” but the truth is, we can’t be 100 per cent sure of their behaviour.

With this in mind, it was pretty amazing that over the weekend, Exhibition Park opened its pavilions and invited dogs and their owners to the world’s classiest doggie day out: A Pooch Affair.

Over 2,000 humans and around 1,000 dogs attended A Pooch Affair, including these rainbow-coloured beauties.

WOW

The whole event was inside, and even though it was a nice winter day, being indoors was very much welcomed. I don’t think my pup has ever felt more glamorous. Even the designated area for dog pooping was called the powder room.

Every detail was thought about and you would never know you were in room full of animals. Pictured below are Rocco and Lacey, Frenchies from Wallaroo.

My day started with Pug Hour. I am a pug Mum to Punky the Pug. She’s just a puppy but already starting to get her name out and about. She looks a little stunned by her own fame.

Punky the Pug

Did you know that a group of pugs is called a Grumble? I didn’t until recently, but check out this grumble! More than 40 pugs brought their humans along to enjoy play time at Pug Hour.

The below photo is the best of a bad lot. Learning how to get a grumble of pugs to pose is on my to-do list.

Pictured here are tired Milo and Lizzie, pooped out after their Pug Hour fun.

After Pug Hour it was time for some shopping in the Doggie Mall. There was so much to look at buy. Everything from styling, to eating, customised dog trailers and even advice on what to do and how to cope when your beloved fur friend passes.

Pick and Mix

Now to the main event! The largest high tea for dogs ever. The high tea ran all day with all sessions selling out well beforehand. There was a place setting for each pooch and human so that you could fine dine with your best friend. It was hard not to smile. We were warned that if your dog misbehaved, you would be asked to leave. I was gobsmacked at how polite the furry diners were.

Here is Ollie the Pomeranian accepting his place as head of table:

We enjoyed the photo booth on the way out, too.

Pet events like A Pooch Affair are a niche market but very much growing in Australia. It was great to see complete strangers mingling and connecting over their like-minded and very cute interests. Money collection boxes were prominent throughout the event, with all proceeds donated to the RSPCA ACT.

Did you go to A Pooch Affair?

What did you think?

Will you come next year?

more of such events should take place. I am sure there are numerous dog lovers out there.
Different competitions must take place .
Dogs love forever 🙂

Haha, gold.

The real dogs were too busy outside getting amongst it. Can’t wait to get a ‘trail dog’.

All of those dogs look incredibly well behaved. My dog would last about five minutes before knocking over a stall, peeing on the carpet and being kicked out for inappropriately touching the other dogs. Maybe I need a pug like Punky!

I want a cat version of this event! The only problem is… cats hate new cats and sometimes new people haha. I don’t think it would go very well.
