Increased aircraft noise over Tuggeranong?

I live in Chisholm, have done so for the past six years.

There was no aircraft noise when we first moved in but over the last few months we have noticed a significant increase in the number of lower flying planes which we can hear flying over when we are inside our house. Granted we don’t have great windows but has anyone else noticed this, particularly during the week?

I can’t find anything online about flight paths changing but they must have!

Yes definitely more noise from commercial aircraft over past few months. I am in Chisholm too and Am Not Happy about it, just didn’t know who to raise it with. We should not hear aircraft noise at all here so clearly the pilots are too far over and not on designated flight path.

They are avoiding the smell from the Mugga Lane Land Fill for the comfort of the passengers.

Yep – same here re increased aircraft noise in Chisholm. Just imagine what it will be like when Canberra Airport gets its way and becomes an international/national freight airport !

First they complain about not enough public transport, now they complain about too much public transport?

Make your minds up, Tuggeranong.

Oh well, still better than living in the soul-less wasteland that is Gunghalin.

Planes aren’t public transport.

Labor sold them in 1992.

Well, if Gunners is a “sole-less wasteland” as you describe, then the Tram will fix that – apparently.

I think there has been a bit of increased light aircraft activity over Tuggeranong in the past 2 weeks.
There was even a vintage Tiger Moth flying low over the weekend.
Small piston engined aircraft tend to fly lower, slower and linger, hence they are more noticeable.
I haven’t detected any increased activity in commercial jet aircraft flying over Tuggeranong.
One thing that is annoying is a noisy R/C drone which zooms around my neighbourhood. I am really jealous that I don’t have one actually.

I’ve asked for a parachute as the plane flies over my house. Would save a fortune on a Taxi fare and some time as well.

Thunderstorm activity in recent weeks would have caused flight path changes…

There was a change in Nov 2014, but that was only for aircraft taking off to the north and turning left. Basically they stay straighter longer before doing the left turn.

I live in West Belconnen and have noticed a drop off in aircraft noise. Not that it was an issue for us before, yes we could hear them if we were outside but never worried us they were high and reasonably quiet anyway and certainly couldn’t hear inside.

With you issue are these aircraft taking off or landing?

I can only recall flying over Chisolm the once, about 2 years ago. Weirdest take off to Sydney I’ve ever done. Took off to the south, then turned and I could see Calwell and Theodore out the left window (so no doubt over Chisolm), then turned right and I could see the Tuggeranong Town centre, then we turned to the north and overflew the city with the tower out the left. Even stranger we then tracked towards Yass and did a couple of holding patterns, (could see Canberra in the distance) then on to Sydney. Flight time was almost an hour. A guy at work didn’t believe me until I brought the flight up on one of the tracking sites.
