Insulation options - polyester or fibreglass?

This household was cold-called the other day about installed government-subsidised insulation, courtesy of the Mr Rudd (now $1200).

We were offered either fibreglass or polyester batts. Do any riot-acters have advice about the relative merits of each? I have never heard of the polyester batts, but it seems to be the installer’s preference.

It was the fibreglass type…rating 4 which is what you need for the ACT winters.

And does it make a measurable difference busgirl? (serious question).

As for now, the rating has increased to 5.1 for ACT.

.

Most definitely…I’ve had it in for only 2 weeks…and while we haven’t any stinking hot days in the past 2 weeks we’ve still had a couple of hot days…and the difference in the temperature inside my house when I get home from work is noticeable…without a doubt.

This ex-Govie Kambah castle was sweaty as a dog-box in summer and like an esky in winter so it will be interesting how the new insulation goes over the winter months.
Loving it so far
🙂

The pre-requisite is that you have to have ineffective insulation ie. either none or a really small amount of that crumbly stuff…half an inch or less I believe…or a .5 rating…something like that anyway.

I got mine for free!!!! The quote came in under $1200…bonus. I love free stuff 🙂

I thought a prerequisite for the Rudd bonus was an uninsulated house – do they check this before they start giving you the hard sell?!?

Yes.

Installers prefer it because it’s less hassle to work with. Fibreglass itches like buggery and can cause respiratory problems. There’s plenty on the net about polyester vs fibreglass.

Clearly, we do not.
