International Alliance of Guardian Angels Canberra calls for volunteers

damianheffernan 2 March 2009 40

The A.C.T. Chapter of the International Alliance of Guardian Angels is calling for volunteers who are prepared to give their time to help make Canberra a safer place. With a variety of programs including Street Safety Patrols, Youth and anti-bullying programs, Teacher training programs and even graffitti clean up days.

While Safety Patrolling is a high profile activity it is only a small part of what Angels do.  The Guardian Angels also help other people organize to fight crime through community events, neighborhood watches and patrols, and education.

The Guardian Angels mission is to provide positive role models for today’s youth and work toward promoting community safety and betterment for the good of society overall.

The organisation accomplishes this mission through training volunteers to be effective as visual deterrents patrolling the streets in communities around the world with an emphasis on coordinating a variety of community-based services, programs and activities to speak and fight against violence, crime and drugs.

Snigger, snigger, snigger, snigger, snigger, snigger, snigger, snigger, snigger, snigger!

I’d forgotten all about the Guardian Angels. What curious early eighties nostalgia.

Excellent vigilantes to roam the streets of Charny, Richardson and Banks.
Enforcing the peace with a uniform and piece of 4×2

Do they still wear the red shirts and yellow berets?

I can’t beleive they still exist!

Nothing says ‘please bust a cap in my ass’ more than a red t-shirt and yellow beret.

I am possibly interested.

These guys are a joke and I think parading around like a group of self-appoionted enforcers of the law in front of the rest of society is opening the gates for a more escalted type of confrontation.

This is a bad idea.

Their site has pictures of lots of red berets.

http://www.guardianangels.org/ but no mention of a Canberra chapter.

Lots of chapters in the US of A and Japan.

Only a few chapters in Europe.

I hope it doesn’t take off here.

The only experience I’ve had with them in real life was in Tokyo in 2004. I was with a friend walking around Shibuya for the first time trying to find a shop (but completely lost because the map we had was rubbish). One of these Angel folk (a Japanese dude) came up and asked if we needed a hand, gave us a detailed printed map of the area in English, and pointed out similar places we’d like. Really was, well, an angel. So they’re 1 for 1 in my book.

So: when you or one of yours gets dusted up by a bunch of idiot teenagers who dont
give a shit if you live or die. Those same idiots who cant tell the difference from
violent movies and PC games from real life and police says we’ll look into it….

Who are you gonna call ?….ghost busters ?
Ever heard of natural law ?

ps:..not all teens are like that….but numbers have been rising alarmingly.

THIS SPACE HAD A POST WHICH WAS DELETED !

WHY ?

Does Riot Act have political views which guides them and
therefore they supress what others write ?….and
others may read ?

Does RIO ACT act as moral police ?
Is using a legal, four letter word no longer legal ?

Yeah….so much for law and justice.
Lets see what ABC tv thinks now, especialy after a glowing
story they did on you a few months ago.

You may delete this post but not the printing.
This page prints so nicely.

Maybe your post was picked up by the bullshit filter?

Bob, you’re on a final warning for foul language.

angry bob angry bob 11:56 pm 02 Mar 09

Final warning ?
So when was the first one jonny ?
Yes, I can see how it works here.

A forum for time wasting.
Too bad u guys have not an iota of intestinal fortitude.
Yeah, ban me if u so desire and go back to your sterile lettle world.

Justice my foot….no wonder this country is going down.

Have you ever thought that there is a valid reason for trying to reduce the fouler of the 4 letter words on this site?

It’s hardly an issue of sterility, but rather an attempt to ensure a SFW environment?

Thus ends one of the shorter un-moderated commenting careers on RiotACT.

I’m thinking ‘Bob’ likes hunting-down kiddies who don’t meet his expectations of how they should behave. I’m all for self-defence but he seems to want to go out looking for trouble.

I loved his comments on ‘intestinal fortitude… sterile world’, however. The sweeping generalisations some people make about other Rioters never ceases to amaze me.

Also, I used to work as in security and as a Bouncer (as i know other some Rioters have) and I have a sneaking suspicion that if you dress ‘Bouncers’ in paramilitary style uniforms, violent incidents around town would likely rise, not fall.

Wow! I didn’t even need to really defend myself with this jerk! Hysterical!

Now imagine if angrybob had signed up for the Canberra chapter of the Guardian Angels.

The defence rests.

Whatsup Whatsup 10:00 am 03 Mar 09

How do you know that angrybob isn’t involved already. Should someone with that much anger be dishing out “Natural Law”?

I think the program has potential but it could attract some over zealous types.

Angryknob, sorry … bob…looks like an early nomination for Rant of the Month.
