International Missing Children’s Day is being held on the 25 May 2014. It is a day to commemorate missing children who have found their way home, remember those who have been victims of crime, and continue efforts to find those who are still missing.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is promoting the Australian Police Child ID smartphone app as part of this years theme – ‘child awareness and safety’.

I encourage all parents to check the app out! It is designed as a tool for parents to store photographs and personal details of their children which can then be quickly and easily provided to police in the event of them going missing. This initiative provides support to families and can speed up efforts to locate a missing child.

If I was overly concerned about a dependent in my charge (autism, alzheimers etc) I’d also look to the new wave of GPS wristwatch trackers e.g. http://www.tictoctrack.com.au
