Outdoor Knitting or Guerilla Knittings’ big day is on 13th of June.

You can knit anywhere as long it is outdoors and passersby are encouraged add a few rows…

Guerrilla knitters are a form of urban taggers who leave their knitting tags on lamp posts, traffic lights or any public post.

OK, if I don’t know how to cast-on can I show up and get someone to do that for me? My Grandma always cast-on for me and I never learned how….

There’s a great website – knittinghelp.com that has the best videos you will ever find demonstrating loads of techniques. But yes, no doubt there’ll be helpers for you on the day.

I’ll be in Sydney on the day so will check out the Sydney event at Darling Harbour.

Casting on is really easy Jessie; I can’t even knit very well but can cast on with aplomb. There is a cute little book that I saw in Tuggers Target on Sunday called ‘Knitting for Dummies’ – I think only one dollar and very easy to follow. You should grab one!

Sounds good

If you show up there will be plenty of people there who could teach you how to cast on so that you don’t have to get anyone to do it for you in the future. 🙂

I’m just waiting for an anti-graffiti Rioter to come in here and say how this is such a great idea whilst maintaining that graffiti is an abhoration.

Do they knit bomb-proof letterbox covers?

It’s important to be able to knit, just in case there’s a revolution and you get a front row seat at the guillotine.

Can the hookishly inclined join in too?

Definitely! Sorry, should have pointed that out. 🙂

Can the hookishly inclined join in too?

Here are the details of the event on the day:

World Wide Knit in Public (WWKiP) Day – 13 June 2009
http://www.wwkipday.com
When: 10am
Where: Garema Place (if the weather is bad we’ll be meeting in the Canberra Centre near Krispy Kreme)
Bring: Yourself, your knitting and remember to wear some warm clothing if it ends up being outside!

World Wide Knit in Public (WWKiP) Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company. WWKiP Day is really about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way. The Canberra chapter of Ravelry would like to show the general public that ‘not only grannies knit!’.

This is brilliant! I must learn to knit. Soon.

sounds like a great yarn…

these people are a menace to society and ought to be stitched up for their crimes. cor, what a purla, eh?

is granny in on this?? bet she’s a ring leader…

Wilful littering, you say?
