Andrew Barr is rather pleased that international visitors are turning towards Canberra:
Growth in the number of international visitors coming to the capital for a holiday and to visit family and friends has contributed to a 6.4 per cent annual increase in international visitation to Canberra.
This figure compares with a 5.2 per cent increase in international visitation nationally, based on data for the year ending September 2013.
Tourism Research Australia’s International Visitor Survey (IVS) released today revealed there were 179,416 international visitors to the ACT over the 12 month period, up from 168,568 for the same period last year.
The survey also indicated that international visitors to Canberra spent a total of $361 million in the city.
The biggest increase came from visitors from Singapore/Malaysia/Thailand/Hong Kong with a 21.4% increase over the year.
