Is it over? Swooping season that is...

Ok Ok I know magpie swooping has featured on this site before – but my question is “is the swooping season over”?

As one who is petrified of said birds, and lives in an area populated by swoopers, I am keen to get back on my bike but not before I know the swooping season has come to a close.

I have been seeing and hearing the younglings- the not so black feathered birds with their begging calls- so the end of the swooping season isn’t far away.

That would get the Taliban quivering in their turbans…

I reckon they’re getting worse.

Yeah I blame their parents and they were too poor to attend private schools.

Get them into the military Capt RAAF?

I’m feeling blesed, I walked through a throng of 26 magpies the other evening – a few sideways glances (as maggies do) and a hop out of the way, but no agression

Of course if its a good season then the birds will have a second round of nesting before winter……

i was savagely swooped last week on mort street braddon when cycling in to work 🙁

Yeah, I was swooped yesterday.

nope – saw a cyclist getting harassed yesterday.

I was thinking it was over, but then there was a post here last week about a particularly vicious bird that seemed to be starting late.

Guess I’ve been lucky this season, aside from one lame attempt mid august I haven’t been attacked at all. Yesterday I rode past a couple holding sticks in the air as they walked; I saw a few magpies just past them but they all completely ignored me.

I think so other than a few hard arsed/psychopathic maggies (the one near the skate park a Tuggers springs to mind).

The one at Red Rooster in Wanniassa has given up, as has the one at the Sea Scouts.

I did a lap of the Cotter/Tidbinbilla yesterday & there was a sneaky one near the tracking station turn that left me alone.

I think you will be safe but you really should think about hardening up for next year 🙂

On Friday I went for a ride in Ainslie… I was attacked (and I mean attacked) by a bird for about 150m. The season is definately not over.

I saw a magpie chasing a crow out of its territory just this morning, so I assume there’s still some swooping going on too.

That and there has been at least 2 other “how do I avoid swooping magpies” threads on here in the last week or so.
