Of course Jerrabomberra is probably seen as “separate” because of marketing and because it took over a private property, developed by Alex Brinkmeyer (who later developed Royalla) and Kerry Stokes (now Chairman of 7 Media and at the time had just sold Canberra’s CTC7).

Jerra is it’s own area (it has it’s own postcode),

So extending this logic, only 2600 is Canberra?

Yep. Otherwise you’re a separate suburb.

And have we forgotten that it was NSW police who were persuing Mully in Fyshwick last year?

Wasn’t that because they started chasing him in NSW?

Tooks & friends might want to correct me, but I believe if NSW police see an offence being committed in the ACT (when they’re passing thru, or on their way back from buying donuts or whatever) they are free to deal with it as if it happened in Queanbeyan.
Of course, the ACT police are Feds, so they have jurisdiction nationally, so don’t have to worry about it at all.

A lot of Queanbeyan NSW Police officers are sworn into both NSW police and ACT policing. Meaning they can arrest yo arse wherever they go. But I believe they must be previously sworn into ACT policing before they nab you.

Why is this such a concern to everybody?

Not only can you not register your car down at ACT motor registry with Jerra as an address (because its not in the ACT) you can’t even catch an ACTION bus to or from Jerra (because its not in the ACT) NSW police patrol Jerra(because its not in the ACT) Actewagl have special access arrangements for Jerra and Qbn with the NSW gov’t
(because its not in the ACT)

NSW police patrol Oaks Estate too. Because it’s not in the ACT. Oh, except it is.

And have we forgotten that it was NSW police who were persuing Mully in Fyshwick last year?

Jerrabomberra’s (the residential bit we all know as Jerrabomberra anyway) very much part of NSW. Not because of which government’s employees service it, but because the border runs down the western rail of the rail line (NSW owns the actual line itself) and Jerrabomberra’s on the eastern side of it.

Is it the western rail of the rail line or the fence west of the western rail line? I know.. I’m pedantic here.

C’mon thats like my in-laws saying that they live in Quakers hill and it is it own entity because it has its own postcode. It is still part of Blacktown City.

Jerra is part of Queanbeyan City, it is just a suburb, that is all. Nothing more, nothing less…a suburb.

Everything East of the railway line is New South Wales.

I live in Jerra.

Jerra is it’s own area (it has it’s own postcode), but for all intents and purposes is part of Queanbeyan. This means we get stuff like the free fortnightly green recycling pickups (and free twice per year junk pickup) and choice of third party personal insurer when we register our cars. Our public transport isn’t great, but we all drive cars anyway.

I’ve lived there for years and love it.

You really have to worry about the future of the human race when you hear things like that.

These wankers are all over Canberra.
Harcourt Hill, Chisholm Heights, Wanniassa Hills, Upper Aranda, Narrabundah Heights etc

A mate of mine works for Canberra Connect and routinely gets people from Jerrabombera ringing up to register their cars, unaware they are in NSW.

The suburb of Jerrabomberra is part of Queanbeyan, in NSW, but there is a DISTRICT of Jerrabomberra wholly within the ACT.

Remember, the ACT is divided into Districts, some of which are mainly urban and some of which are mainly or wholly rural. The urban, or mostly urban districts, are then sub-divided into Divisions, or suburbs as they are more generally known. These Districts are called North Canberra, South Canberra, Belconnen, Woden Valley, Weston Creek, Tuggeranong and Gungahlin.

The other Districts are rural, or mostly rural, and are called Majura, Kowen, Hall, Stromlo, Tennent, Booth, Rendezvous Creek, Mount Clear, Coree, Paddy’s River and Jerrabomberra.

Jerrabomberra also contains four divisions, or suburbs, namely, Oaks Estate, Hume, Symonston and Beard. The rest of Jerrabomberra is rural.

It’s a bit confusing, especially in Jerrabomberra’s case, because the same name has been used on both sides of the border, and although the ACT’s Jerrabomberra covers a larger area, there are more people living in the NSW Jerrabomberra. I wonder which Jerrabomberra came first?!

Hope this helps.

Funny, if I ask my friends who live in Jerra, they are pretty adamant that Jerra is not Queanbeyan.

Yep, pretty much! One of the few issues Canberrans and Queanbeyan(ites?) come together on!

I hear its only the not so rich.. Over a certain limit of wealth and they don’t care.

Had a friend in retail that lives in Kambah and filling out delivery and other things to do with addresses, they’d usually give out Gleneagles as the suburb and the friend would correct to Kambah. Then they’d get annoyed

I believe that people who live in the Gleneagles development are miffed that they have to have their mail addressed to Kambah.

Reality map. Note where the border is of the ACT and where the area labled Jerrabomberra is in relation to that border.
http://maps.google.com.au/?ll=-35.375754,149.188499&spn=0.106656,0.179214&z=13&vpsrc=6

Confirmed via online titles that the suburb of Jerrabomberra exists in the ACT. However it appears to just be large rural blocks, not residential.

Certainly looks like there is a suburb/region called Jerrabomberra in the ACT according to actmapi?

I’ve also heard people refer to North Terrace as NOT Qbn, but a suburb of Jerra!
Yes…..Denial.

All you have to do is look at the Queanbeyan City Council map to see Jerra within it’s jurisdiction. Yes, Jerra is part of Quangers, and many will tell you otherwise. I’ve even heard “upper queanbeyan” once, ha ha ha
