Thai style black sticky rice with rich, sweetly warmed coconut cream…mmmmm mmmmm. I’d like to give making it at home a go, and wondered if anyone knows where to buy the necessary ingredients in Canberra? – black sticky rice, pandanus leaf, palm sugar etc.

And any recipes?

Yum!

My other comfort food is steamed pudding from a tin. No recipe needed there!

Here’s the recipe we use, complete with a video. The golden coconut on top takes it over the edge.

Lilli, looks pretty easy to make yourself. Head down to the Asian Grocer and bobs your aunties husband… More satisfying to make it yourself anyways.

To be totally honest, I’ve never heard of sticky black rice, but I am intrigued now as I have a huge sweet tooth!

Are there any Thai restaurants in Canberra that make the dish (i.e. Lemon Grass maybe?)

I don’t recall seeing it on the menu but then I could have skipped over it. Have you found a recipe for this yet?

Palm sugar, due to out vast and wonderful multicultural society is now a staple at most major supermarkets.

I would think you would find palm sugar, pandanus leaf and black sticky rice at an Asian grocer … you could try Civic, Woden, Dickson, Tuggeranong, Belconnen, Southside, Mawson, Weston Creek, or Gungahlin. You’ll find coconut cream in any supermarket or corner shop …
