Is there a decent hairdresser for children in Canberra?

I take my four year old to Moes in Tuggers. It is a barbers, however the guy who runs it is young and trendier than me. He asks what you want him to do and whilst he does do a lot with the clippers, if you said you wanted a style he would do that. $20 for kids.

I was surprised by the criticism too. As a mother of four all with different personalities and levels of self efficacy I understand the query about a hairdresser that will give a desired haircut to a child. My 10 year old boy has already started not wanting to go to the hairdressers that I was taking him too because of the short haircuts he gets regardless of request. My other sons and daughter don’t mind at all. I was reading this posting in the hope of finding some hairdressers to try but am dissapointed in the attacks that are being made regarding the question. Does it make any of these people feel better personally to have a dig? Some people like giving themselves a buzz cut and some like a hairdresser that can cut a innovative style, others are inbetween, embrace difference?? I am sorry I don’t have a suggestion for a hairdresser to try, currently seeking one myself that my son will feel okay with. I don’t think you pay for what you get regarding hairdressers necessarily, from experience.

I think an 11 year old should be able to make his or her own choices about haircut styles. Does this haircut worry you, Wini, or your son? Maybe he doesn’t care if it’s short. Did you ask him what he thought?

Wow, there’s some harshness out there. Seriously?? “Wini” just want’s to find a better cutter for her son…not a hard request…there are lots of great/good/average cutters out there all over Canberra. We fall into one of those categories. Some people love us…some may even strongly “dislike” what we do (but i’d like to think we are always in the former). When you find someone you like you stick with them so getting the heads up on a suggestion of who is good makes it much easier than trying out all 300+ salons in Canberra one by one (it could be years of disappointments) before you find what you’re after. #justsaying

‘Watson’ – you are ‘classic”! I laughed out loud. Your’e right, I don’t want my son to look like a ‘Romanian orphan’. I think ‘gourmetmumma’ is right – it is the idea that a kid’s haircut needs to be done cheaply and therefore the amount of time spent is proportinal the cost. I would happily spend full-rates on my son’s haircut – and that does not make me a pretentious or wasetful…just discerning (and I don’t think that I would be alone).

If those clothes cost $140 for a pair of designer jeans when you could get the kid a pair for $19 a K-Mart… yes… stop spending money on them.
These people are probably the same ones bleating about the unfair cuts to middle class welfare because they can’t afford the horrible cost of living.

Awesome assumption. All the person wanted was for her son to not come out of the hairdresser’s looking like a Romanian orphan.

You know, kids like to look good, too. I for one want my kids to take pride in their appearance. That doesn’t mean designer clothes, but it does mean good grooming, including a haircut that looks good with little effort. My teenaged son makes a point of behaving well, being polite, and being well-presented. It’s all part of a bigger picture of being a positive member of society.
