ACT Policing will summons a 40-year-old Isabella Plains man to face court after police located cannabis plants while executing a search warrant yesterday (December 4) afternoon.
Around 4.30pm, detectives from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations executed a Drugs of Dependence Act search warrant at the Isabella Plains house.

During the search of a shed in the rear yard, police located three purpose-built rooms which all contained cannabis plants in different stages of maturity.

In total, police located and seized 18 cannabis plants which were being grown with the assistance of an elaborate hydroponic system.

Detective Sergeant John Giles from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations said that during the warrant police seized over eight kilograms of cannabis.

“This seizure comes off the back of a number of successful warrants ACT Policing has executed as part of its illicit drugs campaign.

“There are signs which people can look out for which could indicate someone may have a hydroponic system growing cannabis inside their house. Look out for houses that have blocked off windows and are extremely well-lit indoors at all hours. Also look out for ventilation fittings which are erected on the roof and there are usually hoses and pipes being used for water and ventilation purposes,” Detective Sergeant Giles said.

The 40-year-old man will be summonsed to face the ACT Magistrates Court on drugs charges at a later date.

If you suspect someone is dealing or growing illicit drugs or witnessed suspicious behaviour in your neighbourhood, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously and rewards of up to $1,000 may apply.

Keep telling yourself that.

This is the voytek who advocates switching lanes in the last seconds to turn right as a good thing.

Thats right you piece of shit. Learn how to drive or get off the road. I truly hope I read about you as another road statistic.

Or, voytek, you could stop relentlessly trolling and actually read some research on the subject. Having dealt with a number of very messed up people on Cannabis or suffering from mental illness triggered by Cannabis use, I tend to believe the science ahead of the inane commentary spouted by a low-life who hides under metaphorical “bridges” on the inter webs.

I’m not convinced he’s a troll. Just very unintelligent.

Theres an abundance of clueless morons that post on this stupid website but I refuse to be called unintelligent by you. The garbage you post is up there with some of the worst. Go and get yourself fucked you joke.

Awww, you upset little fella? Someone’s a bit upset about being called out for their moronic comments in every thread. If you think this site is stupid, please do us all a favour and piss off, you clueless little halfwit.

Weed being illegal is a joke. Read the history people very fascinating and typical of government decisions being influenced by a small number of people who benefit. Weed needs to be legalised and regulated which would inject millions into the ACT economy alone and billions on a federal level. The act gov should lead the way in a similar fashion as california and colorado have done so in America.

Weed is still illegal to possess in California as far as I know.

Portland Maine seem to have a fairly sensible policy (although I haven’t read it in great detail):

– Legalised possession of up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana among adults 21 years of age and older, as well as any paraphernalia needed to use it.
– The ordinance also allows adults 21 years of age and older to engage in activities for the purpose of ascertaining the possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, which presumably implies the seeking out or purchasing of these items.

I’d like to see similar policy here. It is not a harmless drug, but it would free up a lot of police resources to legalise it. It is as easy as ever to buy the stuff and the price hasn’t changed for at least 20 years.

Make cannabis legal to grow and offer licences to reputable businesses to sell recreational weed (as they are beginning to do in the states). Spend up on education campaigns (not scare campaigns) and I think we’d be on the right track.

Another criminal king pin is off the streets. Now I can sleep through the night. Remind me, why is something that grows naturally illicit again?

Maybe one of the reasons is that it causes and leads to depression and suicide.

Thats bullshit , maybe for some people, but not for most people.
People with schizophrenia are born that way.

Oh come on how are most dole bludgers (as opposed to genuine work seekers,) supposed to make a living?

Stonees are generally useless but arresting them is pointless.

They’re no more harmful than they are well washed.

And I’ve known someone to smoke to keep his schizophrenia under control btw. There’s a correlation but it’s been very unclear which way the causality lies.

Because the government doesn’t get a cut in the multi-million dollar industry.
Because god botherers and do-gooders make up the stigma that gets attached to participants.

Like anything that provides pleasure, it’s about control, moderation and appropriate use, if someone can’t manage those, chances are whatever ‘x’ is will screw up said person and loved ones lives, making ‘x’ an easy target for the blamethrower, not the person. Less so with hard drugs I might add.

I get confused about who the actual criminals are. Maybe embellishing members of enforcement agencies (they must really get embarrassed about these little jokes of a bust) lawmakers and other authoritarian figures should try a scoob and sitting down with 2001: A Space Odyssey some time.

(and now for my comment, but in English…. I promise I’m not stoned… Ironically, I’m on government-funded opiates which mess me up…)

I wonder how many people claiming to know the effects of cannabis use have bothered studying the research. Cannabis doesn’t “cause” schizophrenia – it ”only” causes psychotic episodes in people who already have a genetic predisposition to such episodes.

There is also no “chemical addiction” to cannabis in the way that there is for alcohol or tobacco for example. Whatever it is that makes potheads “need” pot – it isn’t caused by brain chemicals the way that actual addictions are.

With the current research, I think I could make a pretty compelling argument that cannabis does not fall under the auspices of a “drug of dependence”.

“elaborate hydroponic system”

involving many carefully arranged parts or details; detailed and complicated in design and planning.

Hydroponics aren’t detailed and complicated in design and planning. The parts don’t have to be carefully arranged.

so why do they always say this.

The problem is that the weed is not growing naturally. It is cultivated by man with the use of electricity and hydroponics. In the last 50 years humans have also used ‘unnatural’ selection to attain higher levels of THC. Weed doesn’t adversely affect everyone, but I personally know an ex-mate who lost a promising music career because of it and another great mate who has now given up the habit, but only after it cost him his marriage.

Your mates sound weak. What sort of a loser blames marijuana use for the break up of his marriage?

I can’t speak for the ex-mate musician (a talented songwriter), but I think my good mate who lost his marriage doesn’t blame weed but he did have the courage to admit that it was adversely affecting his health and relationships (he was advised to give up by professionals). He is now a successful businessman in SA construction industry (some of his work is part of the ‘new’ Adelaide Oval).

I have friends who’ve lost promising music careers because of marriages … if only they’d smoked more.
