Canberra Hospital and Health Services Deputy Director-General, Ian Thompson has warned Canberrans that technical issues are causing delays for non-urgent cases at Canberra Hospital.

“Work is currently under way to resolve these issues, but it is not clear when the work will be complete,” Mr Thompson said,

“Patients who present to the Canberra Hospital Emergency Department who do not require urgent treatment should expect delays.

“People with less urgent conditions should consider other treatment options, such as General Practitioners, the Walk in Centre, or Calvary Hospital Emergency Department until the issues are resolved,” Mr Thompson said.

Check the link for suggested alternatives for non-urgent cases.

AIHW just release a report saying that we missed our ED targets, and now we loose money. Just saw Dr Peggy Brown on WIN News say:

“The data doctoring scandal obviously had an impact upon our ability to meet our ED targets”

WTF? Cheating distracts people from meeting targets, so everyone should feel sorry for us?

The spin from this bogan Government is just unbelievable. Thanks to everyone who voted for ACT Labor and the Greens! Four more years of this.

Ok I know it is not right to feed the trolls and I am not an apologist for this government (bogan or not) but there is a bigger picture here.

Well it actually turns out that in fact only Western Australia met its ED performance target so, the ACT not meeting its is only part of the picture. As is the fact that the ACT met its elective surgery target as did a number of other jurisdictions and we do get bonus money for that.

No, cheating does not distract from meeting targets but when the targets are based on doctored data in the first place it does make them slightly harder to reach. What also needs to be taken into consideration is that there are two public hospital emergency departments in the ACT and the data doctoring only occurred at one from the reports I read.

Oh and finally *lose
If there is any loose money around I will have it thanks

A Sinclair ZX81? That’d be a step forward.

Hey, that came out well before the ‘640k should be mroe than enough memory for anyone”.

The old baby has few years left in her yet – if only we could find someone who could code on it.

Sad reflection of our day and age when computers dictate whether we get medical treatment or not.

I suspect one of the Canberra health centres got ransomized last year, couldn’t get treatment for 2 days, computers down!

Procedures (ie, pencil and paper) should be in place to cope with this.

Sad that (potentially) critical IT systems like this aren’t adequately covered for such problems.

With the onset of many new Clinics in Belconnen (at least) people should not have to rush their kids to Emergency with a “high temperature” and thus clogging up the system for those with real medical emergencies.

It costs about $50 a year for an Annual Ambulance Family Fee …… join up and when Junior starts going red in the face, call 000. It wont cost a thing for the Ambulance and it will leave the REAL emergencies to the professionals.

It is NOT the Government’s responsibility for the welfare of your offspring. It is YOURS.

Think more along the lines of the IT people belonging in a sheltered workshop.

Pretty vague, but for some reason I must know! Exploding monitors? Faulty mice? Too many cookies?
