Italian reckons the mafia did for Winchester

The Australian has a story on Italian authorities pointing the finger in the Colin Winchester assassination at the Calabrian mafia.

Vincenzo Macri, former deputy chief of the National AntiMafia Directorate in Italy, said he believed Winchester was ‘‘certainly’’ murdered by the Calabrian organised crime group known as the ’Ndrangheta, adding that he based his belief mainly on Australian police sources.

Mr Macri’s statement appears to support claims of innocence made by the man convicted of the Winchester murder, David Eastman, a mentally troubled former Treasury Department official who is serving a life sentence.

Eastman was jailed in 1995 but has consistently proclaimed his innocence and last year successfully applied to the ACT Supreme Court for an inquiry into his conviction, which is scheduled to begin hearings next week.

I take back what I said. I said in another blog that bundah appeared to be a disinformation agent for the DPP. But HenryBG is certainly a good guy. So maybe bundah is too.

I fear that we will never get to the bottom of this controversial murder until Henry BG emerges from his sabbatical. Earth to Henry do you copy?

Maybe he too has been “whacked” because he knows too much?
BTW I don’t miss him but I have had nothing to do with his disappearance.

I just want to say that I did miss him. Repeatedly. And that, unfortunately, is why I too have nothing to do with his disappearance.

Had a weird dream after reading this article in the CT… I think at the moment there is a crazy Italian (claiming to be part of the Calibrian mafia) currently behind bars at AMC awaiting trial for a recent violent Canberra murder… it might be a long bow to draw but maybe, just maybe, someone in authority should attempt to speak to him about what he knows re the killing of Colin Winchester. For me there are quite a few coincidences between these two stories… re unexplained wealth, hasn’t worked for thirty years, capable of violent unexplained murder… comments made at the time of his arrest… “When I get out of here… I’ll kill you and your boss…” Interesting yes. Coincidental?…Hmmm

Actually I meant the Australian not CT.

His alibi was a prostitute who worked at the brothel owned by a known local Mafia identity wasn’t it? Did the police look at his contact books at home and at work at The Treasury to check the Italian names there?

I thought the brothel (Silver Pear?) was owned by a Sydney underworld boss and a local AFP investigator who wanted Wiinchester to approve the establishment of a casino in Canberra. Prostitution goes hand in hand with gambling.

Why on earth would the plod have anything to do with the approval of a casino?

Can I suggest a study of ‘Lawley House’ could be educational 🙂

Right on. Why have another rival in the casino business?

And of course, there are all those conspiracy theorists (including some former senior AFP members) that reckon Lloyd Worthy had something to do with it.

As I understand it, Winchester was influential with the casino licensing process and a lot of established gambling venues (both illegal and legal) needed a casino like a hole in the head. The consensus was that Winchester was opposed to a casino getting a license and this would have not been helpful to the speculative interests of the brothel owners. No one knows who’s interests (if any) Winchester may have been representing but have you ever wondered why every time the Casino tries to get poker machines, they are knocked back?

I think Mark Standen might have some interesting material to add on this case.

Anyone who has worked with the AFP knows that their top priorities are:

1.Protecting their image.
2.Protecting their image.
3.Protecting their image.
10.crime fighting

Standen would have been so junior as to still be sh1tting yellow (or wet behind the ears if you prefer) when Winchester was shot.

Yeah and our police forces are so straighty one eighty, they would never be involved in corruption or drugs lol so naieve.

On one thread the man calls for capital punishment of muggers and people convicted of violent crimes, on another he claims that police corruption is a real problem (and infers that this corruption can lead to innocent people being falsely convicted of crimes they didn’t commit).

In the 1992 publication “The Winchester Scandal” (Rod Campbell, Brian Toohey and William Pinwill), there are hundreds of references made to people with Italian names who were central to the initial investigation. A lot were “executed” before they could be interviewed.
Both Campbell and Pinwill are no longer with us but it would be interesting to hear what Brian Toohey has to say about the latest claim from Macri (any relation to the person of the same surname who was caught cultivating a big plantation near Braidwood?).

Because the carbinieri (sic) and other Italian government officials are well known for probity and ethical standards.

A Canberra Court found beyond a reasonable doubt that Eastman did it. That’s the Australian belief

I’ll never forget the local TV news report about a court case involving drug growing a week before the shooting where the Italian star witness suddenly decided not to testify, telling the media outside the courtroom that he “would be minced meat” if he did.

No, I don’t think it was a coincidence that Winchester’s shooting happened at the same time.

His alibi was a prostitute who worked at the brothel owned by a known local Mafia identity wasn’t it? Did the police look at his contact books at home and at work at The Treasury to check the Italian names there?
