It’s all been downhill for operation names since Overlord

ACT Policing and NSW Police will be increasing patrols around arterial roads in and out of the ACT this long weekend as part of ‘Operation Stay Alert’.

From 8-11 June, police will join forces to target speeding, drink-driving and driver fatigue as motorists head to the snowfields for the beginning of the 2012 ski season.

Motorists are reminded that double demerit penalties will be in place from Friday 8 June to midnight, Monday 11 June.

Acting Superintendent of Traffic Operations Rod Anderson said it was important that drivers practised safe driving habits to keep our roads safe over the long weekend period.

“Police would encourage everyone to be patient, obey speed limits and take regular breaks to minimise the risk of an incident on our roads”.

“Traditionally long weekends see a higher number of drivers on our roads. Planning your trip and taking turns to drive will make sure everyone gets to their holiday destination and home again safely” Acting Superintendent Anderson said.

During last year’s Queen’s Birthday long weekend double demerit period, ACT Policing issued 152 Traffic Infringement Notices to drivers and conducted 281 random roadside breath tests.

Operation Insadent

Operation spelling out the stunningly obvious?

I reckon the only way to test if a driver is truly alert is to throw a dummy in front of their car from behind a bush. If they hit the dummy, they get a fine. Bring it on!

Southbound peak-hour traffic on the Monaro Highway last night (Friday) certainly wasn’t speeding. It was at a crawl from north of the AMC right up to the Isabella Drive intersection — where an RBT operation was being carried out. I hope they caught some drink-drivers to warrant the disruption they caused to everyone else trying to get home.

We’re they kicking it off at MilesFranklin PS this afternoon looking for drunk mummies picking up their kidneys ?.

3 cop cars showed up right on 3.

More like drunk tradies. Alot of tradies (male) pick up their kids from school nowadays (Mums drop them off to school). This is a regular thing around ACT.

That’s nothing. I’ve just heard that the NSW RMS is to carry out Operation Brass Monkey over the long weekend.

Given the way their own officers drive, perhaps “Operation did you get your licence in a cereal box” should get underway.

How do police target “driver fatigue” short of pulling over everybody asleep at the wheel?

You might be interested to know that the AFP are launching Operation “Asleep at the wheel” where they liberally dose each driver with amphetamines to combat fatigue and this will be followed by Operation “Come down hard” 10 kms up the road where each driver is drug tested.

Woo hoo! Go the Plod, get out there and git ’em.

I wonder if they’ll get their giant caravan-thing going at the top of the climb out of Quangers, on the King’s? Still don’t know what they were up to with that last weekend, they ignored me.

I reckon the Monaro ones must get a fair few if they’re breathalysing people leaving the Snowfields Fleecing on Sunday.
