It’s going to be a big night at Tilleys

So it’s official.

Julia Gillard is going to be sworn in as Prime Minister this later today.

If you’re planning to celebrate it might be worth getting on the blower to book a table at Tilleys tonight.

It’s going to get crowded.

(Also might be worth updating your details with the electoral commission)

UPDATE: In the press conference the Prime Minister designate announced she won’t move into The Lodge until she wins an election.

Pity her neighbours about to have head of government security descend on them. Also going to be interesting to see how fast the CIA and Chinese can buy up adjoining units to listen in.

Awww, poor Libs, all the effort they put into their just released Kevin O’Lemon ads will have gone to waste.

Not to mention that 38 million that Little Kevvie spent on selling the potential super-profits tax that Julia just announced will be cancelled.

This is not about Kevin Rudd or Julia Gillard. This about Australia having a new prime minister that was not voted in by the public.
I don’t know why I am feeling so betrayed? It is after all politics – dirty, deceitful and underhanded. Australian politics at its best. Bring on Don Kee.

Kate Lundy’s take on it (with bonus potential for swinging the internet censorship bill back into sane(r) territory.

+1 to what Mr Evil said.

It will be interesting to see if Gillard announces a front bench reshuffle. Almost the entire IT industry expects Senator Conroy to be replaced by local girl Kate Lundy sooner or later. Sooner being preferable.

Would that (likely) mean, no more internet filter and finally an R18+ rating for computer games in this country?

Sorry but I couldn’t help laughing at Kochie’s reaction over at Channel 7. He was so indignant at the decision. Looked like he didn’t know wether to burst into tears or punch someone 🙂

I was confused about the Tilleys association too. I had heard it was a girls hang out (if you know what I mean) but what are we suggesting…………………?

Ok, for those who came in late, from the wikipedia entry:

When the café first opened in 1984, it was intended as a women’s space, with men allowed entry only when accompanied by women. Popular with lesbian women, it quickly became an icon of Canberra’s LGBT scene. Attempts to restrict or limit entry of men inevitably brought challenges, most notably by a group of cadets from the Royal Military College, Duntroon who attempted to force their way in, instigating a brawl. Eventually the policy was dropped.

What’s the Tilleys connection? I’ve not lived in Canberra very long.

Big night for the sisterhood. Tilleys is their bar.

Bit early to celebrate, isn’t it?

But if you are going to celebrate, surely the focus should be on the first ranga to become Australian PM.

like, how is this canberra news, o riot act..? 😉

the big question: will julia have the lodge painted pink to ram the point home?

and i love the fact that australia now has a PM who, for the first time since bob hawke, sounds stryl’n!

No, no, no, you’ve got it all wrong. She won’t paint the Lodge pink, it’ll be monkey bum red, to match her hair (as the crew at Cactus like to call it) 🙂

“like, how is this canberra news, o riot act..?”

Did they move Parliament House to somewhere else?

“and i love the fact that australia now has a PM who, for the first time since bob hawke, sounds stryl’n!”

And the first in a while who when they smile looks like they mean it.

Many in the public service cheering in their cubicles right now! Perhaps no more ‘urgent’ demands for things 24/7 for them to sit in the PM’s office unactioned for weeks or months!

Who cares if the new prime minister is a woman, anybody is better than Krudd! Good luck to her, but I will still vote Liberal – wouldn’t trust the Labor party with anything, they’re run by the unions and that will never change.

bd84 bd84 10:43 am 24 Jun 10

Awesome, she can create some new records as 1st woman Prime Minister and for one the shortest length of time as serving Prime Minister when we vote these douches out later in the year or early next year.

WAHOO!

Mr Evil Mr Evil 10:31 am 24 Jun 10

Good to see some of the usual suspects behind this coup, including the likes of Arbib and Shorten.

Shorten – famous for his 15 mins of fame in sounding indignant about worker’s safety being compromised by greedy bosses whilst he was riding on the back of publicity surrounding the rescue of two miners trapped in TAS; and for being a fairly useless junior minister for Disabilities. Would make a better circus clown than anything else.

Arbib – famous for allegedly telling PS staff not to deal with Peter Garrett about the home insulation program, but to deal directly with Arbib and Kevin – until it all went pear-shaped! I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could kick him. If it looks like a rat, it usually is a rat!

No doubt Kevin will be lumbered with all the blame for the BER stuff ups too so that Julia will look squeaky clean!

sepi sepi 10:23 am 24 Jun 10

Go Julia!!!!!
How exciting.
I do feel sorry for Kevin (what happens to him now?).
But I am so happy for Julia, and for Australia to have finally put a woman in a position of real power and influence.
