It's Suzanne! Live in Canberra takes the national PR award

Yesterday I was unkind about the Live in Canberra campaign winning a spin doctors award for the best Government campaign in the ACT.

With thanks to DT for the heads up, the Chief Minister is now celebrating the national win of the expensive campaign.

He mentions the achievements of this expensive and award winning campaign:

  • A website already accessed by more than 12,000 people;
  • Nearly 600 calls to a dedicated call centre;
  • Information packs sent to more than 800 people;
  • An intensive marketing campaign (print, radio, cinema and letterbox drop into Sydney’s south-west);
  • A successful series of information seminars in Sydney’s south-west;
  • Participation in Country Week;
  • An eight page feature in The Weekend Australian;
  • Development of a 20-page Live in Canberra promotional booklet; and
  • The creation and distribution of Canberra’s first-ever Welcome Pack for new residents.
  • That’s odd, no mention of an increase in people coming to live in Canberra!

    Taking a break from checking the share prices in the Fin. Review and reading these complaints as I recline on my verandah overlooking the western reaches of LBG, sipping my chardonnay and tucking into my jar of Scottish mussels, stroking my labrador and gazing wistfully at muscular rowing chaps from the AIS club down the road, I can’t think where on earth you people must live. Not in the Canberra I know…

    Nah, its just sales spin … take selling a house – you give the place a touch up, invest more time in the garden than you ever have previously, just to make the place look good … you’re not selling a place with a nice garden, you selling a place with a garden that doesn’t need any work – you’re selling someone a dream … they’re thinking, gee that lawn looks good, and they don’t seem to get weeds on this side of town either … the café society, private school kids having fun, getting a park out the front of your favorite pub on a Saturday night scenario is just a come on.

    They’ll have to edit the ‘zoom video’ on the website though – it shows a Kangaroos game, AND a tree house at Weston Park. Weren’t they all removed? (I remember there were four, but I haven’t been there for a while – happy to stand corrected if there is still one left).

    As I said in another thread, you would think we all lived in Campbell or Ainslie and ate out every night if you believed the spin on this compaign. I don’t know, maybe that’s Reality for marketing people and politicians . . .?

    The creation and distribution of Canberra’s first-ever Welcome Pack for new residents – my folks sure could have used one of those, particularly if it said don’t bother coming into Canberra in the week between Chrissy and New Years – the old lady thought all them street cars were the normal state of affairs – when she got to our place she had to have a bex and a lie down!

    An eight page feature in The Weekend Australian – might go some way to explaining Malcolm Farr’s hatchet job in the Tele – that sort of newsprint real estate would cost a bit – maybe the Tele’s sales guys sooled Farr onto us?

    “Nearly 600 calls to a dedicated call centre” – over what period? a day, week, month ?

    “A website already accessed by more than 12,000 people”

    Holy crap – watch out Google!
