The September 2008 Kingston murder of Cameron Anderson has come to court.

It caused a stir at the time as Cameron’s hacked up body was found on the play equipment of a Telopea Park child care centre.

The young woman who left Filthy McFadden’s with Cameron earlier on the fateful night is now on trial in the Children’s Court where one of the many stab wounds has been described as the killer according to the ABC:

Dr Michael Phillip Burke is a Victorian forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy on the victim.

He told the hearing, Mr Anderson suffered many stab wounds however one chest wound triggered a fatal air embolism in the heart.

He told Magistrate Karen Fryar that the cut allowed air to access the circulation, preventing blood moving through the heart by creating an airlock.

Dr Burke described the injury as not survivable, unless there had been a cardio-thoracic surgeon at the scene as the stabbing occurred.

UPDATE: The ABC has a further piece confirming the teenaged woman will stand trial for murder. She’s being represented by Bernard Collaery who is pleading self defense as a result of being sexually attacked.

ConanOfCooma: Or you know, maybe it was a case of self-defence? I don’t know, but I’m pretty bloody sure you don’t, either.

The first line in my last comment was supposed to read: “Might be hard to disprove her defence” . But apparently there are phone taps etc which will be introduced as evidence.

Might be hard to disprove

It’s Canberra! The magistrate will be all “Aw, wittle girl gawt attacked, he deserved to die…” and off she goes, and Canberra remains almost murder free!

A Magistrate won’t be hearing the case, so you don’t need to worry.

Some interesting background can be obtained in

It details the effects of various stabbing wounds. Hope you are not still eating! – No pictures though – but wow did the people in the 1700’s do bad things to each other.

Let’s hope the DPP demonstrate a return to form with a successful prosecution for a change.
