So here we are again at Christmas time.

Rosebud sent in this picture with the following text:

Sshh Godzilla, the Baby Jesus is sleeping

Spike here is making his presence felt in the humble manger of the Holy Family at our place. The kids insist he must not miss out on all the worshippy goings on. Darwin would be turning in his grave.

Which reminds me… It’s time to send in to us your pictures of your Christmas trees. The best one, as judged by the RiotACT critics circle, will win a prize. Just email in to trees@the-riotact.com .

I haven’t tried this, but I’m told for best pictures of christmas trees with lights (tricky because you need to balance the light levels of light sources and the tree itself) follow these steps:

    1. Manually set the white balance of your camera to incandescent or tungsten.

    2. Position yourself and the tree, near sunset, so the darkening sky is in the background.

    3. Take a photograph every minute as the light dies.

    4. If you don’t have a tripod make sure the camera is braced on something stable as you’ll need longer exposures.

We look forward to seeing what the good people of Canberra can come up with for their christmas trees.

St. Albertus Magnus is the patron saint of the Natural Sciences and Natural History.
Saint Bede the Venerable is the patron saint of Scholars and Human History.
There is no patron saint of Paleontology, and until the Roman Catholic world wants to formally acknowledge a history other than Primeval Genesis, it will stay that way.

Hmmm saint Sam Neill?

Oh well in that case dinosaurs in my nativity scene.

But Jesus loves all of God’s children, even the baby velociraptors.

I don’t but it was drummed into me at a certain Catholic high school in Dickson from 1981 to 1986. Dinosaurs are the one big spanner in the works to those who are creationists.

Farnarkler – mmmmmm….do ya think?

Interesting nativity scene with a stegasaurus. Doesn’t it contradict the whole creation story as, if the earth was populated with life on the sixth day, T-rex and all his equal or bigger sized meat eating friends were put on earth the same day as we were. Why weren’t we all dinosaur droppings???

If there’s a prize for best photo, surely Dexi is the best judge.

Geeks JB – Photo Geeks 🙂

I figured you photo nerds would have your own tricks anyway Dan.

Probably a good idea to bracket your shots too…

-0.3ev 0ev +0.3ev usually works for me.

Of course if you have a camera that can bracket on white balance, then thats a bonus as well 🙂

Sure, we’re always up for something different.

Are Festivus poles eligible?
