Howdy guys, it has been a long time since I have posted I thought I would fire something out there.

I have decided that The riotACT has become a place for crappy political dialogue and soap box standing!

So now it is my turn

What really annoys me is that on the news whenever a political decision is made they always refer to it as “Canberra has decided” ETC it shits me, no wonder the rest of Australia sees Canberra as a place full of politicians and public servants.

I don’t think people realise that how fantastic Canberra is, the design, the layout, and things to do and places to see.

As a life long Canberran I know I have taken it for granted, peering out my window I really appreciate my view down northbourne AVE with heaps of green trees and buildings popping up just past the tree line… remember kids Tree pretty Fire bad.

Also there are some many interesting things to do in Canberra, but I only realise it when I get invaded by relos and I drag them to the War Memorial, Parliament house, Telstra tower, the botanical gardens ETC, do people realise how much stuff there is to see in Canberra that is FREE!!!!!

Okay deep breath…. tooo much sugar and caffeine I have decided to end the rant here with just one final disjointed thought….

Can someone please explain WTF “(sic)” is???
Is it a TLA (Three Letter Acronym) is it a new hip form of Fully Sick, I don’t know someone please shed some light.

Proud Canberran

Now I’ve read your Crikey article, JB, I have a distinct sense of deja vu….

anybody with an i-pod should be spat on.

Does iTunes have The Zit Remedy?

Maybe now I can complete my My Bloody Valentine collection.

Got you all beat
Hair the Musical on LP played only by brass instruments 🙂

Now you’ve prompted me to dig out ‘Disraeli Gears’ – how come vinyl has a quality like nuffink else?

I’ve still got the LP…and their other two.

Geez, I must have been a hippie…

*sigh*

couldn’t help myself, also got goldfrapp’s “felt mountain”.

this thing is so, so, very bad for record stores.

on another note the album reviews they’ve got are incredibly bloody good (and frequently talk you out of buying the album).

OK, went a bit crazy, also bought The Mountain Goats “The Sunset Tree”, Hole “Live Through This”, Nirvana “Nevermind”, Singles by Iron Maiden “Powerslave” and “Revelations”, and the soundtrack to “Natural Born Killers”.

Which fills the obvious holes in my collection making my hard drive a superior archive to theirs at this time IMHO.

Oh and a third party had already submitted insatiable banalities to their podcast directory, thank you whoever you are.

But I have now bought Powderfinger’s “Vulture Street” and The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry” (the whole albums) for $16.99 each from the comfort of my home.

IN the US there is legislation that political issues will be described as happening on ‘Capitol Hill’, rather than Washington.

Glad that’s settled.

My partner has often made the same observation BLamemonkey (sic) made – you know, the one that’s not about “sic”. Reporters stating that “Canberra” has made another pigheaded decision. She’s also a lifelong Canberran, and she also is annoyed with this misuse. I think we need suggestions as to what we can do about it.

but that could be construed as a correct statement…bottom dwelling mud eater

Mr Evil it would be:

Stanhope is carp(sic)…

sic…….Stanhope is Crap?

How long until we can expect Insatiable Banalities to be in the Australian Podcasts section of aussie itunes?

It’s rather older than that – it’s been around in academia and so on for many decades at least. It’s used when you’re quoting someone who’s made some kind of error in their own text; when you reproduce the error in your quote you add [sic] to indicate that the error is the original source’s, not yours.

For example, I might quote your remark about “crappy political dialogue ans [sic] soap box standing” with the sic in there to show that I picked up your typo but am reproducing it to provide a verbatim quote.

I think it comes from the Latin, where “sic” is, IIRC, equivalent to the English “thus”. So you’re saying, in short, that it was thus in the original source.

sic…. strangely idiotic comment
