Simon Corbell has announced that Ivan Potas is the new Official Visitor to the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) and whatever other prisons might arise.

“This is an important advocacy role for those who reside in the AMC, and provides prisoners with a voice about a range of issues that they feel are important to raise with ACT Corrective Services management, as well as more significant issues to me as the Minister.”

Mr Potas has a background in law and research criminology and has worked for the Australian Institute of Criminology, the University of Canberra and the Judicial Commission of NSW.

“I know that he will bring this experience to best serve those who he visits at the AMC and other facilities across Canberra, such as the periodic detention centre at Symonston,” Mr Corbell said.

“I would like to thank the outgoing Official Visitor, Jeremy Boland, who brought great vigour and enthusiasm to the position. He has achieved a lot during his time in the role, and was able to sponsor the development of detainee programs including the Legal Literacy workshops that have been conducted by the ANU Law School.
