Jack Pappas to represent Russell Field

Earlier in the week I heard a bit of gossip going around that the legend of the ACT Bar, Jack Pappas had been engaged to represent the alleged Wanniassa double murderer Russell Field.

Today I was able to speak to the man himself, who confirmed he had been engaged by Ben Aulich & Assocates to represent Mr. Field.

It would appear that Mr. Field’s team is very serious about pursuing his defence.

I just like that if you combine their names you get Jack Russell.

Who? Pappas or Eastman?

Jack Pappas. Somehow I don’t think David Eastman is the old skool car enthusiast type, haha.

. . . unless it’s the Tonka Toys variety.

Methinks Mr Field has found himself a formidable champion. Let the games commence.

Ben Aulich was the litigator at Meyer Vandenberg not so long ago, too. Very sharp operator, it was educational watching him spot the cracks in a case and drive a truck through them.

jack is not silk. add a couple of letters to a barrister’s name and their price tag increases considerably. Aulich used to work for him, back when pappas still had chambers in canberra. i suspect that’s why his services have been engaged. don’t know where field’s money’s coming from, but if i were him i’d do whatever i could to fight two murder charges.

Jack Pappas is a little more serious, and quite a bit more expensive, than most.

Someone must think the case is worth fighting.

Pardon? Got her off what? Singh was found not guilty of murder because of diminished responsibility but guilty of manslaughter. Sentenced to 10 to serve 4 on the bottom. Paroled in 2001.

Crap sentence but Jack got her off nothing…..the Courts did that bit for her

That goes without saying. I’d be very worried if a privately funded lawyer(s) didn’t seriously pursue a client’s defence in a high-profile case.

Pappas did well in the Anu Singhe case in the mid 90s, got her off alright. She was mad as a hatter in any event…

Why….the can? Camp pose? What?

Why would you hire this man to defend you against two counts of murder?

Haven’t seen him with a Lotus Cortina but he used to drive an old EK Holden which was in mint condition.

Ran into the man in Bundaberg a few months ago. Spends his time between there and Brisbane besides the occasional appearance elsewhere as a pinch hitter. Went up a long way in my book when he participated in a few training programs at my work where he pointed out the things he looked for when he defended people.

Went hard, very hard in the courtroom. Left it at the door though

Does he still have his mint condition Lotus Cortina?

Eastman sacked a lot of lawyers as he tried to slow the grinding of the wheels of justice.

Ah yes, Jack Pappas who was famously sacked by David Harold Eastman during his (Eastman’s) trial for the shooting of Winchester. As someone commented at the time “surely being sacked by a fruit loop such as Eastman is a badge of honour”.

Is that the same Jack Pappas who once argued that his client’s dog could not have savaged a neighbour because the animal was under a year of age?

The argument goes (bear with me), being under a year in age, the animal was not a ‘dog’, but a PUPPY, and any charges relating the ‘dog’ could not apply to his client!
The man is a Genius

As always there’s always more to the story….and maybe the “more” in this case will be enough to get Mr Field off.

And if there’s anyone that can turn “little” into “more” it would by Mr Pappas.

If I had a choice between “Go to prison and be very easy to find for some Rebels who want to kill me” and “Stay out of prison, where some Rebels want to kill me”, I’d probably encourage my legal team to fight hard too.
