Jake White keen to leave Brumbies already?

The Sydney Morning Herald has the deeply upsetting news for Brumbies fans.

In news that will stun the Brumbies, the 2007 World Cup winning coach has declared his intention to apply to take the role vacated by Peter de Villiers, after de Villiers announced after South Africa’s loss to the Wallabies that he would be standing down.

““Being at the World Cup and experiencing the tournament has re-ignited my desire to get back into international rugby,” White was quoted as saying in South Africa’s Cape Argus after watching the quarter-final in Wellington.

“I’d like to make myself available for the Bok job.”

Quite where this leaves the Brumbies is anyone’s guess. White took over the role in April and has been involved in recruitment and planning since then. However, such is his apparent determination to return to South Africa, it would be difficult to see how the Canberra-based outfit could stand in his way.

The story is a massive beat up.

White has to come out and say that he’s interested in returning to coaching the Boks otherwise the SA press will be all over him.

South African rugby politics at work.

He seems interested to one day return to coaching them but he’s signed on with the Brumbies for the next 4 years.

If he is serious in returning to coaching test rugby it can only be good for the Brumbies as he’ll be out to prove something to the folks back home.

At the moment he’s not a favourite amongst South African rugby administrators and there are already several coaches well ahead of him in line for the gig.

Nothing to see here.

Sounds like ole Jake has been swept up in the emotion of the World Cup and decided he wants another crack at international glory. That or he just had a look at the Brumbies 2012 squad and has got cold feet.

…and in another Peter De Villiers special, he has now said he never resigned in the first place and intends to stay on until the end of his contract. Only another two and a half months anyway.

Jeez he’s a bit of a crackpot.

It just keeps getting worse for the Brumbies.

It may be a bit pessimistic, but I don’t have a good feeling about the Brumbies future. They have lost all their players, and now possibly the quality coach who could assist with rebuilding the team. As well as this, we have lost the biggest draw card, the ‘fantastic rugby program’ that lead players to sign with the Brumbies ahead of other franchises based in more desirable geographical locations. That seems to have been ruined by poor administration.

I don’t think the fickle Canberra supporter base would be sufficient to sustain the team as they lose the overwhelming majority of matches during the next few seasons of rebuilding.

How does this work if he decides to leave? Does he have to pay a break cost to his contract similar to a mobile phone? I’m sure it’s more complicated than that, but what are the consequences of him leaving so soon into a contract?

Jake is engaged in Olympic grade tap dancing on 666 right now.

He doesn’t want to burn his bridges before he’s got a new contact signed is my take on what he’s saying.
