OK, maybe this is well known by now…

but I recently heard that the Jammo Pool (a.k.a “Big Splash”) is set to close sometime in the next few weeks.

Apparently, they’ve been struggling ever since CISAC opened just down the road. Does anyone else know anything of this? If true, as one of Canberra’s few outdoor pools and the only place with big waterslides it’ll be loss keenly felt by me.

Thanks guys – I think I’ll take the family sometime during the next few weeks.

Adverts for the place on TV this morning.

As far as I’m aware it is still open.

Drove past yesterday and business was booming.

Maybe CISAC is closing now? It looks pretty run down these days…

As far as I’m aware it is still open.

BUMP!

So, did this pool close or is it still open?

This rumour has been going around for years, and each year its the same thing ‘This summer is the last summer for Big Splash’

I hope not, what a shame if it is closing for real. Though too far from us here in Tuggers to go often, the kids all go to Big Splash every year in the last week of school for their final excursion.
Outdoor pools are much nicer than indoor smelly ones! (I still miss Phillip’s old layout before they stuck the ice skating rink on the grounds, it was a lovely park-like place.)

My pop will be sad. He swims there in the morning during summer. He always makes a point of telling me how many laps he did. He’s recently been having coffee with the other blokes that swim in the morning, including the owner. He tells me all their stories.
I miss my pop. *sigh*

Part of my life since I can remember.

Dead set tragedy. As little kids our footy training in early season was to run up to the top of the slide, slide down and repeat

While of course it may be true this year, over the past three years I have had discussions with friends who were lifeguards, and heard from the various outlets of the rumour mill, that the summer of ’03 or’04 or whatever would be the last summer of jammo pools. Can’t imagine it would be cheap to run, maybe the gungahlin detention centre will have kamikaze slides too!

*gasp*

I’ve never heard of it until now, and wow, i’m shocked. (mind you, they supposedly always close over the winter time, and open back around in november?)

Errgh. then the nearest place with water slides would be like that jamboroo place? Ahhh.
