Jamo Inn Still Standing

RiotACT being the font of all knowledge that it is we’ve had an inquiry as to when the Jamo Inn is going to get knocked down, in order that people don’t miss out on sending the grand (yeah right) old place off in style.

While the Jamo Inn was scheduled for redevelopment into apartment blocks 2 years ago the planning approval didn’t come through due to the plan for high rise apartments in a residential area (or so I’ve heard) and the land owner agreed to renew/extend the lease to the pub for a while longer yet. Which is why the outdoor setting has been fancied up and almost looks respectable and I keep thinking to myself I should go along and try out their breakfast menu one weekend when I’ve got a hangover and its a nice sunny day.

Anyone know anymore?

They’ve changed the name to the Dek, one of the few good suburban pubs left in town. Much nicer than what the jamo used to be like (there are plans to enclose the deck/beer garden out the front during winter), food is what you’d expect when you pay $5 for a steak – but their breakfasts are awesome, and huge. Staff are good value for a laugh. Generally a big uni night on Thursday, Karaoke on Friday (after the footy) and Jazz on Sundays. They’ve recently sponsored my sporting club and gave us a free keg to drink to celebrate, so am very happy to report that it’s not as dodgy as you might think.

Its owned and run by the same people that run Insomnia. And they have spiced it up a bit to try and get a few of the uni students in.
Its got the same bunch of regulars that have been going there for years, dogs included.
Cant remember but I think they have a jazz night. They also have a darts comp on wednesdays.
They installed a massive screen for the footy and racing but the regulars started using it to watch dvds. They had to stop doing that because it was happening every night and basically people went there to watch the movie and no one was buying drinks.

I’ve seen a couple of bands there of a sunday afternoon. Apart from the sun in your eyes, it’s not a bad place to sit and have a drink or two.

Food is pretty rubbish. Nice enough place to have a drink on a summers evening though. Not sure how well the Dek will go down in winter though!
