The what you say? Well if you did you obviously are not a Catholic as the JCI is the Journey of the Cross and Icon, part of the Catholic Churches’ World Youth Day.

The Prime Minister held a welcome for the Micks on Monday at Parliament House and the big wooden thing that people get nailed to that is a symbol of peace (wtf?) and the Icon (can anyone tell me what the Icon actually is?) has since gone on procession around Goulburn, Yass and the South Coast. The Procession is due back in the ACT on Friday and hits all the Catholic schools, hospitals, parishes and the odd notable Canberra location (the war memorial, reconciliation place, the AIS) over the next couple of days before going down to the Snowie Mountains on Tuesday 23 Feb.

The JCI’s Canberra itinerary can be found here.

hey read the comments, fair enough. It’s like saying that the sea is blue, but unless you experience seeing the blue sea in a picture or in person it means nothing to you. I have been involved with the Cross and Icon “festivities”. I think that people have put alot of focus on the cross and icon as objects. however i don’t want to retract from the gift they are as symbols, they were given to the youth of the world by the late John Paul II. they say you can tell if a tree is good by its fruit, and much of the fruit is good, these symbols have brought healing to people in some of the most war torn areas of our world. they were snuck by youth trough the iron curtain as a sign of hope. I pray that people can look beyond a giant wooden cross and a nice picture and find hope, love and the hand of mercy offered by christ to everyone. if anyone has any questions please post them and i would be happy to chat.

Okay, that’s _not_fücking_funny_ John.

Cost to the taxpayer: $37.5million at last count. I’m not joking. Funds provided “to the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney as a contribution to the cost of hosting World Youth Day”.

thanks for the puns, punsters. This is a desperate attempt by Cardinal Pell & co to whip up some media hysteria and drum up some activity in the soul-saving business. Pathetic parading of pseudo-relics. Religion gets excused way too readily. If you believe in fairies you can be put away, but if you believe in angels you’re lauded and called sincere.
Your homework tonight is to read Christopher Hitchens’ book “god is not great”. Class dismissed.

maybe we should um.. um.. buddha the hell out of this post.

(apologies I couldn’t think of anything)

It’s a shame when valuable bytes are allowed to be used for the spreading of this kind of propaganda. Not only that, where can I send the invoice for the electricity that is running through my puter while this sheer unadulterated kayrap is violating my monitor space?

These jokes are making me ‘sikh’

One wonders with God being omnipitent if knock-knock jokes would work?

all these religious jokes are shi’ite!

Ahh, of course. Cheers!

Sorry VY (pigs/Islam) trying to fill in a slow day.

VYBerlinaV8_the_one_they_all_copy2:51 pm 20 Feb 08

How do you mean? Surely we should feel free to bag all religions equally!

VY are you telling porkies?

All this attention on the JCI is making me very cross.

VYBerlinaV8_the_one_they_all_copy11:54 am 20 Feb 08

I wonder if we’d all feel so comfortable bagging the muslim faith like this? After all, they are a bunch of crazy terrorist suicide bombers, when all said and done!

“You guys are all going to the hot place……”

The Gold Coast? Florida?

everyone believes in fairytales ladies.

Hell only exists for people that believe in it. Therefore not believing in it will truly redeem yourself.

That and the exit clause of begging for forgiveness right at the last minute, to which the answer is already determined.

You guys are all going to the hot place……I’ll save you a place.

Well, when you put it that way…

The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree…

So Jesus got wood!
