Slap!

Jeremy Hanson has collected what he obviously believes is a large enough pile of mud pies and has started throwing them, asking for a performance audit into Emergency Department waiting times in an effort to get Katy back for not sharing her sooper dooper

“A review of the Nurse-led Walk-in Centre at the Canberra Hospital found that Katy Gallagher ignored evidence that it would create more pressure on the Emergency Department,” Mr Hanson said today.

“In addition to this it has been revealed that Katy Gallagher has also ignored advice regarding the establishment of a paediatric stream in the ED.

“Now as a result of Katy Gallagher’s recklessness in ignoring evidence and advice from her department and health officials, we have seen our ED waiting times get progressively worse, exactly as the warnings predicated.

“In June 2010 the Canberra Liberals called on the Auditor-General to conduct an audit of ‘Waiting Lists for Elective Surgery and Medical Treatment,’ since the release of that report there have been improvements to elective surgery waiting times. Now we need the same action in our ED’s.

“The proof that we need a review into ED waiting times continues to stack up.

There is a serious need for this Government to fix the problems they have created and get our health system back to being one of the best in the countrynot one of the worst,” Mr Hanson concluded.

Sounds great in theory but are taxpayers prepared to foot the bill to get adequate outcomes? Personally, as a left wing socialist, i’m more than happy to pay more tax to get an optimum health system but i believe i’m in the minority.

Is there such a thing as a “right wing socialist”? I am thinking Joseph Stalin perhaps.

From Wikipedia

Conservative or right-wing socialism[1][2] was given a definition by Jesús Huerta de Soto as a type of socialism in which institutional aggression is employed to maintain the social status quo and the privileges certain people or groups of people enjoy.[3]

The term has been used by right-wing movements and politicians to describe support for social solidarity and paternalism as opposed to individualism, commercialism, and laissez faire economics.[4][5] The fundamental objective of “right-wing socialism” is to maintain the status quo by preventing the free exercise of entrepreneurship and creative human action from disrupting the pre-established framework of social organization.[3] It supports social hierarchy and certain people and groups to hold higher status in such a hierarchy.[4]

It has also been used to indicate a centrist divide between Marxism-Leninism and a social democratic type of socialism, as in Japan.

Except the walk in centre is really popular with the electorate and very successful – therefore practically untouchable. Otherwise, I like the cut of Mr Hansen’s jib and suggest he concentrate on the problems, not the sucesses (even if the successes have flow on issues).
