The first direct Jetstar flight connecting Canberra and the Gold Coast will take off from Queensland at 12:55 pm today (16 September), bringing more than 180 passengers to the Capital.
The Airbus A320 service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with one 1.5-hour flight departing each city daily.
The flights will depart from the Gold Coast at 12:55 pm, arrive in Canberra at 2:35 pm, and depart from Canberra at 3:10 pm, arriving on the Gold Coast at 4:40 pm.
Bookings are now open for travel between the two cities, with airfares starting from $115 one way (between late November and mid-December 2022).
Up to 70,000 travellers a year are expected between the two cities.
Jetstar said they’re already seeing strong demand for flights from the Gold Coast to Canberra leading into the Queensland and ACT school holiday period and festive season.
“Thanks to the support of the ACT Government, these new routes are helping bring more low fares options to Canberra travellers,” a Jetstar spokesperson said.
This follows the successful launch of flight services that linked Canberra with Melbourne and Brisbane earlier this year.
ACT Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Andrew Barr welcomed the new service.
“This is fantastic timing as we head into Spring with Floriade and with the school holidays coming up. It gives Canberrans access to another holiday destination,” Mr Barr said.
“These flights demonstrate the confidence of airlines in the Canberra market.
“We are now connected to 13 domestic destinations, a critical part of diversifying our visitor economy and providing great options for the community.”
