The ABC informs us that the Federal Police Association’s Jim Tor is challenging Comrade Stanhope to a debate on police numbers and safety in the ACT.

If you’ve grown tired of the Chief Minister’s huff and puff routine it looks like you’re not alone.

Pigs will fly before we see the debate though.

Flying pigs sounds good…. who is paying?

I heard something on 2CC yesterday about Stanhope going on the afternoon talkback show to discuss this topic….

NTP is correct, they are lateral recruits.

And he also right about the size and frequency of new recruit classes

Although I can’t be sure I would guess that it was a lateral course (police pinched from other state forces).

Normal recruit classes are of about 20 students with multiple classes run at the same time.

If a debate really does go ahead I suspect that it would be poor form for VG and I not to go along – hey maybe we could go for a couple of beers before hand just to lubricate the debate.

What’s with the eleven new recruits? I wouldn’t have thought that you could deliver training in an economically feasibly way to such a small group – perhaps VG can shed some light on what’s involved in recruit training – is this an annual graduation class, or do they move through the system in regular intervals? How many trainees/cadets would there be at any one time?
