Simon Corbell has announced the elevation of John Hinchey to the position of ACT Victims of Crime Commissioner.
“Mr Hinchey has extensive experience in this area, and has acted in the position for some time, and I am sure will provide excellent support to those in our community who require these services.”
The Victim of Crimes Commissioner position replaces the Victims of Crime Coordinator following amendments last year to the Victims of Crime Act 1994.
Mr Hinchey has been acting in the position since 1 March 2011 and will also take up the appointment of Domestic Violence Project Coordinator.
The Victims of Crime Commissioner is responsible for advocating for the interests of victims, ensuring the provision of efficient and effective services for victims.
“The role of the Commissioner will also be consulting on and promoting reforms to meet the interests of victims and developing educational and other programs to promote awareness of the interests of victims,” Mr Corbell said.
