Johnathan Davis (Greens for Brindabella) get the Greens off and racing with the Lego

The Lego Challenge keeps gathering pace with the Greens getting on board via Johnathan Davis.

For those coming in late there’s two things going on here:

    1) We need donations of Lego (or Lego contributed for return on a by-the-kilogram basis as we don’t plan to separate them back out again)

    2) So we can then spend August and September in the pub watching ACT election candidates trying to make the most impressive possible creation with the available bricks.

It should be noted we’re not doing one giant sit down with all the candidates at once (fun as that could be) but a series run over many nights with a YouTube video of what they make and what comes of it.

We’re certainly encouraging candidates to get in and donate the pieces they’re wanting to see when they sit down with the big box of Lego.

Much appreciated Johnathan! As a donating candidate he’s allowed to choose venue for his upcoming challenge, in this case PJ’s Tuggeranong has been nominated.

(Yes we realise clever candidates are getting good cheap publicity out of this. This is not a problem as we aim to encourage clever candidates)

So far the donating tally is Two Liberal, Two Labor, Two members of the public (Thank you Ayrton and Penelope), One Greens and no minor parties.

Yet. We’ll let you know!

Let’s be honest here.i am a 30 year old man. In mst cases, I’d rather vote for a 20 year od than a out of touch 50 year old.

I’ve probably met more 20 year olds who are out of touch than 50 year olds. At least a bit of life experience gives things perspective.

I was going to say the same thing.

Johnathan looks baby faced, but has some life experience that guarantees great depth. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

To be honest I think there’s some value in having at least one very young MLA, as we get older we get too good at accepting things that are wrong as just “the way it’s done”.

It’s a shame there aren’t many people who manage to keep their passion while they build thier intellect and street smarts. It’s also a shame that not many of those who do manage this want to represent us.

Ultimately, it probably doesn’t matter so much what age people are, as long as they do a good job representing the interests of those who elected them, and knowing when to make unpopular decisions that lead to greater good.

happy to see some other candidates involved – just would love to see someone come up with green (or blue) spaces and trees – you can get lego trees you know. Some judicious searching on ebay might help:)

Just tell them that their wildest dreams will come true if they vote for you.

Being a 40 year old man I’m inclined to agree. At least young he still has the fire to change the world. I find too many politicians these days seem to be only interested in playing party politics and not actually interested in doing anything that will improve the world. Unless it gets them reelected of course.

Couldn’t agree more and locally the older members have all the fun, For them it just function after function free meal after free meal, gleaming in their faux celebrity. I really laugh when I see sitting members out at the locals shops hustling for votes, it’s so strange and outside the realm.

Bloody Hell! Disrespect being shown towards 50 year old people! How can this be?? Outrageous! Unacceptable! I’m 50, and I demand…choke…sputter…rant…

Well it was a age I pulled out my bottom, but I do know a lot of out of touch 50 year olds!

A pub in Tuggeranong. You probably don’t want to make a special trip just to see it.

Haw haw haw….:-)

Where are the female candidates?

Only the female candidates can answer that.

I don’t know… I had a lot of ideals at 20, but I don’t think they were grounded in the realities of life.

Hi Rioters, Johnathan here.

You can all rest well in the knowledge that while I don’t look a day over 12, I am in fact 20. Though when we go to PJ’s I will have my ID out in earnest, just in case 😛

I sincerely hope you’re running on the platform of more coke machines and a longer a lunch break during summer.

Coke machines and lunch breaks are Federal issues.

Should the young people of Brindabella feel they are not provided with adequate lunch breaks or access to beverages, I would encourage them to make there collective voices known through their student leaders 😛

Good to see a candidate with a sense of humour!

I want the Pirate Party ACT (PPAU-ACT) to join in and actually bring some interesting Lego, so far the donations from candidates have been quite bland.

I guess the Greens picking a Hospital and Recycling Truck set fits somewhat with the party theme, but still boring imho.

VYBerlinaV8_is_back3:45 pm 17 Jul 12

It would be interesting to see whether the lego donated by each party/candidate says anything about their opinion or policies on key issues. For example, the lego Solar Array as opposed to the lego Cotton Plantation.

About time the Greens got on board with the Lego Challenge – bit dissapointed they didn’t have some better lego though – you would have thought they could have included some more interesting pieces to use but maybe they are trying to seem as bland as the major parties?

Apparently he regularly hosts karaoke at the Irish Club so I think he’ll be fine.

Or craics at the Japanese Club?

Or PJ’s, even. Auto-correct.

And I don’t mean to suggest that all candidates should be middle-aged. Just able to vote for themselves with a Real Pen.

PJ’s Tuggeranong? I would have thought the ABC child care centre at Kingston would have been more appropriate. Not as a parent but one of the pupils.

How old is Johnathan Davis? Not sure he breaks the age barrier to even play with that Lego.

Shouldn’t Greens lego be made out of recycled cardboard?
(someone had to start the ball rolling)

Wow, I bet his spent his whole two weeks pocket money on those lego sets.

Just don’t keep him up past his 8.00pm bedtime otherwise he will be tired and cranky with his Nanny all day the next day.

Haha.

I couldn’t vote for someone who needs mum to drive him to the Legislative Assembly.
