Joy Burch gets the nod

The worst kept secret in Canberra is that Joy Burch was moving into the ministry.

Today the acting Chiefly Katy Gallagher has announced the long anticipated move.

Ms Burch has been appointed to the Disability and Housing, Ageing, Multicultural Affairs, Corrections and Industrial Relations Portfolios from today (1 November 2009).
“These are temporary appointments pending further possible changes to the Administrative Arrangements by the Chief Minister on his return to Canberra following his overseas trade mission,” Ms Gallagher said.

One can only hope that “possible future changes” include taking over the health portfolio.

I think all non partisan politics watchers relish the possibility of a former nurse getting stuck into Canberra’s health administrators.

I rate Joy Birch very highly from my limited interactions with her – I think she’ll do a great job.

I hear they’re even allowed to play golf these days.
